Retrofit with F56 style headlight

So there's this Taiwan company making this F56 headlight that will fit in our R56. And here're some pic that I get from a Chinese forum. The guy said it cost ~2800 rmb, (~460USD)

sounds too expensive for an aftermarket headlamp, you can buy the 25w xenon with change left for beer

Anyone have experience with these? I think those are gorgeous. Plus they use CCFL which should help the rings be less spotty like LED diodes.

These look like the ones on Ebay for $799. Where can you buy for $460 and is a complete retro kit from halogen?

You can find them at protuning lab. Has anyone gotten these yet?
I'm curious to know if they have the same issues the spec-d lights had.

They must've just started carrying those. I was on their site a while back and all they had were the LED halo style ones.

I still think those are SO good looking. I'm not the biggest fan of the new F56 styling but I think the headlights are fantastic looking.

If anyone buys these please give your experience. I'd love to get some HID's that won't have issues and don't cost an arm and a leg.

Looks like CarID has these in stock now at a lower price. (Showing 421) for me. The brand also looks reputable.

Thoughts? Any reason I shouldn't buy?

If you do please post back with your experience. I'd be willing to pick a set up if they perform as they should and without hassle

Deciding between buying from CarId without the HID conversion kit or from ProTuning lab with the HID conversion kit already installed?

What exactly is in the conversion kit? I don't recall seeing that on their website when I looked a while back. I'd definitely get the cancelers (is that the conversion kit?) and even if you don't use them they're only $15.

Finally received the lights from CarID.

WOOHOO! I finally received the lights from CarID.

I was halfway through the install, but then couldn't figure out where these two wires are supposed to go and what power source to tap the power from.

I asked CarID, and they nor Spyder were helpful.

Help?

What is the ballast they connect to giving power to? It's hard to see from the pictures but it almost looks like it would be providing power to the outer ring of that style headlight. You might be able to tap power from your side markers (the ambers) like others have done with their LED style headlights.

Hopefully somebody else can chime in here or you get some info from either Spyder or CarID.

Edit: they didn't come with any install instructions?!?

Nope, no install instructions, just generic video's on Youtube.

I believe those two wires have something to do with the DRL's, but I'm not sure where to connect them.

Besides that; connecting the harness and everything else was quite straightforward.

I'd see if you can't splice them into your side marker lights. I believe those light when you have the DRLs on but I'm not 100% certain on that...might want to investigate before chopping into them.

They did give me some quick splice connectors, so I'm not sure.

CarID recommended I go to a body shop, so I may end up meeting a buddy of mine, to see what insight he has.

Like I said earlier, a lot of people that run the other LED type aftermarket headlights have tapped into the side marker power supply and were successful with that. If they included those quick splices that makes it even easier. My only hesitation in saying that's for sure where you should tap in for power comes from the fact that I'm not certain of whether the side markers light when you have the lights in the "DRL" position. I'd go check but I'm lazy and the car is downstairs

Good luck though and please post back if/when you get them working with your impressions and some pics.

I've been thinking about buying a pair of these, and for $421, I may just pull the trigger... My plan on the LED ring is to connect it to switched power (on when the vehicle is on) and putting a simple relay circuit in so it will shut off when the headlights are on.

Just my 2c.

I had an F56 behind me yesterday and I believe that the DRL ring stays lit when the headlights are on. I could very well be wrong but that's what it looked like.

If you do pull the trigger and get it to work the way you described please post back. I really like that style headlight and would also pull the trigger if I knew they worked as such.

It works! AND IT LOOKS AWESOME

I ended up taking it a custom audio shop, and paid more than I had initially estimated, but they look amazing!!!

Initially the guy suggested tapping power from inside the car, so that the DRLs would turn on with the ignition and turn off with the ignition, but we ended up deciding that tapping the fog lights would be the easier and cheaper install.

Now I want to do the LED fog light install, so it's all white.

Pros:
-Tapping the Fog Lights lets you turn them on and off at will.

Cons:
-Not sure yet.

Before the install, I usually left my lights on all the time, now I'm not so sure; but the bonus of leaving lights on all the time is that you get a cool parking/welcome light when you unlock the car :P

Those look pretty friggin slick. How are the HIDs and projectors?

Also is there any way you could post daylight pics?

Edit: I also meant to ask, does the kit comes with warning cancelers? I'm guessing if you're satisfied with them up to this point they aren't strobing like some have encountered on retrofits.
