R56 2007 MCS Head Rebuild
2007 MCS Head Rebuild
I'm currently rebuilding the head on my 2007 MCS as it suffered a broken exhaust valve a couple of weeks ago (at 65k miles). I've had many questions so far and have found most of my answers in this forum... thanks to all for your efforts.
Here's a question I haven't found the answer to...
Of the 16 valve lifters (realoem calls them "alignment elements"), only three of them compress and rebound (like there's a spring inside). The others don't compress at all. The top spins on the base, but they don't compress, at least not when squeezed with the same force (by hand) as the 3 that do. Anyone know how they should behave? Assuming they should compress/spring back, should they be replaced?
Thanks,
Erik

Lifters/alignment elements are hydraulic--the 3 that spring back probably just have some residual oil/air. When you rebuild, they will all fall to the bottom of the lifter guide and only lift when started/oil pressure is present.
