Plasma booster?

Ok guys, so the P.O. installed a minimania plasma booster on my r53. Supposedly, it's supposed to "increase spark power" and if I remember correctly minimania claimed some ridiculous horsepower gains. Does anyone have this on their car? Is it worth leaving on our should I toss it like a bad habit? Looks like it's tied directly into the coil wiring, and I've had the car for a couple years now. Any info, advice, or experience is welcome!

Perhaps a thousand pages of posts debating on if the Plasms booster was a scam....
For the $$ it never caught on...
Most anybody ever could say was "car seemed" or "appeared" to be smoother...
Dyno tests...lol...that would prove something....making it harder to sell installed units!! Nobody wants to get stuck with a $$$ boat anchor....
General rule...
Mods that work...stay on the car...ones that don't are sold....a bit different with some cars getting parted out today...
But I will tell you...lots of used units were sold regularly....

I'm with Zippy on this. I remember when these things first hit the market about a decade ago and the there were non-stop posts on forums about them. No real quantitative improvements were ever proven that I've seen. It was always "seems like," "feels like" the car is smoother and pulls a little stronger. Placebos are a powerful thing.

Well as soon as I have a day off, I'm gonna pull it off the car and report back. Interested to see if there's any change, especially with the other mods I've done.

Pull it and go oem. There's plenty of cars making tons of power on the stock unit. Because it works.

The plasma booster is just an add on to the coil, it doesn't replace anything as far as I know

Yeah, not needed. If you have issues, replace the OEM coil.

Hey Chickenbreast53,
Could you post a picture of the plasma booster with the wiring to the coil? I had one of those I had on an old NON ECU BMW...Not sure if it did anything, but never caused a problem on the old car... Still sitting in my pile O stuff, might put it on my 05 S...
TIA
Kavema
