Power Steering Cooling Fan Question

My 05 (11-04) R52 has a bad PS cooling fan. Pictures of replacement fans show a small rectangular device near the power connector. My old fan does not have this thingy. Can anyone tell me what it is?

Hello,

Here is a thread with some more info on the power steering fan. The older original ones don't have the little built in fuse/ resistor. Newer ones do. They all get the newer one when replaced. We have some options here:

Thanks

You can buy a "bare" fan....and reuse the metal part....
Later 2005+ mini's had the fans screwed on...yours is likely rivited on...drill them out, and use 4 sheet metal screws to mount the new one....about 5 minutes...
IMO buy a fan with the box...mine was the same...bet the box is a thermal fuse of some types...early minis seem to have s FIRE issue...but changes in mid 2005 seemed to fix the issue....

Just use a computer fan!

Thanks to all who responded---- I'll just get a replacement fan and pop it in. I have the old one out and the fan is attached to the bracket with screws.

You are welcome. Read through my link above and check everything out while you are in there. Good maintenance to check things out.

Get & keep this kit for when the PS system finally fails & when warranty runs out:
