New Mini Bashing

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...482818196&rd=1

Look at that auction and read the first few sentences...

I was shocked that a person could be that disrespectful. I sent him an e-mail telling him so I advise some of you do the same

The author certainly is trying an aggressive marketing routine!

His critical error was stating "...BMW Compact...". The Bimmer 3-er compact is actually a short-trunk 3-series, rear drive, and built in Germany. The MINI, as we all know, is its own platform, front wheel drive, and built in Oxford, at the same plant (albiet hugely revised) the original Mini's were.

sigh, either this guy can't get his facts straight, or the facts didn't fit his rant. (I hate when that happens )

says he's slimming down his Mini collection to buy a new house...i guess the trailer in the background has become overrun with nose-miners!

What an insult calling it a "BMW compact". Ouch that hurts. And they aren't really that small. Wow that cuts deep exposing our secret like that. Also, maybe it is true other places, but where I live I only saw a used one once and it went within a couple of days. I've even had people ask if they can buy mine. Scarew Him.

Actually he stated that he is "sliming" down his collection... appropriate for his mentality and attitude.

Oh my! What a rude chap that Colin is! Clearly one of the anti-German, anti-New MINI crowd of bigots one reads on various sites. Odd way to advertise one's goods by slamming the very vehicle that has made the classics so popular and raised their market value! Ungrateful wretch! Grrrrrr!

What an excellent marketing career this bloke is missing. I'm sure he has well researched these facts and hooked the new mini bashers for a quick sale. The odd thing is, it's like he won't sell it in England? Hmmm, have to hunt around all his houses and cars to find it, probably to tricky for local viewing.

Perhaps a creative E-bay scam?

looks like one hell of a car, though! 8k original miles? I'm very tempted to place a bid myself, but having just gotten rid of a bunch of VWs, I think my wife would kill me!

Also too bad that SmartCar he's standing in front of isn't legal in the USA yet. That's another fun little car that I wouldn't mind toodling around in.

Regardless, flaming the guy about what he said in his own ebay ad just doesn't seem right to me. He's not saying anything that we all know is commonly felt by classic Mini owners, particularly in the UK. Emailing him about expressing his own opinion makes MINI enthusiasts look like a bunch of whiners.

Just my 2 cents.

He sounds like one of the purists that don't like re-issues of anything. Note he says get the "original" Italian Job movie. I've known people like him, who feel that if you get the "new" one then you're not of of the "cool" people. He seems obsessed with BMW..he probably got upset when BMW bought Mini and have hated them ever since. I have to admit that when Ford bought Jaguar I got pretty upset too...though I can't say that would keep me from getting a Jag if the circumstances were right. I think this is just snobbery. Like you aren't born a certain way then what good are you?

I agree why e-mail the guy. Who cares what he thinks. It is a free world and if he doesn't like the new Mini, than that is his perogative. Why does everyone feel on a mission to protect the new Mini or get the classic Mini and the new Mini owners to be friends. If some people don't like the new Mini or some don't like the classic Mini who cares.

Hmmm, in the rear shot of the left side, looks like the boot lid might have dents...

The guys is just angy/sarcastic in general...not worth an email...read his entire post...lots of smart a$$ comments all over the place. He makes a lot of jabs at US foreign policy while trying to convince you to buy his car and ship it to the US (not that I agree with our feorien poilicy either...that another story). Also, I don't even know if you could really even import it to the US...is it even old enough??

What is that saying? Opinions are like @$$holes, everyone has one. So to each there own I say.
That is a sweet little mini, if I had the spare cash and the time to maintain it I would bid. It's not like your buying his opinion, just his cool little car.

I am not bothered by his comments. He is simply making an attempt at humor, although he needs to keep the day job.

He states, "Think about it... its not really a Mini, it’s a BMW Compact

Well, it is not the same Mini that has been around from 1959 until 2000 and it is NOT a Mini, it is a MINI. And look at BMWs marketing ploy: BMW views the MINI as a "beginner BMW" themselves, hoping that we "upgrade" in the future.

"its not even small, Has no trunk space and has 1,000’s of irritating faults."

Is this untrue? Try to fit somthing - anything - in the boot of your MINI. And read this board to find the MINIs many faults.

I own both a 1968 and a 2004 Cooper S. Is the new MINI as fun to drive as the old model? Not even close. Does it handle as well? Not at all. Is the new MINI still a great car and better than any new car on the road today? Absolutely!

This new vs old stuff happens with a lot cars... You see a lot of people saying that the new Mk IV VW GTI is not a real GTI...its bigh heavy and slow. A lot of people bash the new 911 for being big too. It is a zillion times worse though with the MINI vs Mini thing because the Mini its original form was made for so darn long and...it was so darn good of a car. But lets face it our car is not a Mini..its a MINI it was deigned almost 40 years later!! Sure its big...but it sure is small by today's standards.8

If VW made the Mk I GTI up until a few years ago and them jumped to the current Mk IV in one generation or if Porsche made the 1968 911 until a couple of years ago and then jumped to the current 996 you'd hear the very same thing. Both of those cars evolved over the genrations... the Mini was in a design time capsule. If Austin/Leyland/BMC/Rover had develeped interim models througout the 40 year life of the Mini maybe the "shock" of the MINI would not be so severe. Lets face it there were no real changes to the Mini not because the car was perfect it was more a $$$ fact that BMC had no money to develop real changes to the car over its life. So in a way we were lucky to have the Mini around for so long because BMC did have the money to make real changes.

Oh yeah, and the MINI is owned by a German company...just like Rolls Royce....just like Bentley. A lot of people are pretty worked up about that.

I love my MINI..I drive to work every day...drive on long road trips too. Sorry but that is just not realistic in a classic Mini.

They are different cars from different eras...we are all very lucky to have both of them around though.

I dont think we're necesserily upset that he's bashing our cars that is generally thought of as "nifty".

he's just being a tool and obviously selling to a certain group of people.

i dont think most classic owners think the same way as tool boy. I think some hardcore enthusiasts who cant open up to changes in their beloved toys do, but i'm thinking that quite a few classic enthusiasts gobbled it up when it came out. Or i'm wrong. It's not easy being a miter saw.

I'm not sure what he's complaining about. The new Coops are built in England, keeping his cousins employed!
