Buying JCW Intake
Buying JCW Intake
I'm thinking about buying the jcw intake for my 09 fjcw. I have a factory warranty that runs out in August but I still have an extended warranty which I bought with the car. So for warranty reasons, I was thinking about getting it. Is there anyone that has it that can chime in on what their thoughts are on it? I know its basically just a different Lid and Filter and gasket right?
Most feel the factory setup is hard to beat.
I have JCW with DDM race unit but feel the intake air get too heated from running over the motor. A CAI that could take from the high pressure around the windscreen might be beneficial.
If u want a performance feel upgrade, a Sprint Booster makes for a real nice uptick.

Not much sound difference, but definitely a better throttle response...
I'm fine with the power but I do feel it is slightly numb on throttle response. Think I would hear the boost anymore? I do like how the jcw you can hear boost but i would like it a little bit louder but not annoying.
It's only a little louder. I didn't notice much of a difference in sound to be honest.
I also remember reading somewhere that you can replace the cone filter with your regular panel filter to get even more sound and air flow. This way you don't have to buy a $30 gasket...

Is yours the one with the cone/cylinder filter inside? (I might be more than interested, not to step in the OPs toes)

So I looked up warranties and aftermarket parts. This is what I found:

So maybe I might want to get an intake that makes a little more boost noise but not so annoying like some out there where its super loud every shift. any suggestions? Thanks for applying quickly guys!

Its an intake with a panel filter. Like this...http://www.knfilters.com/mobile/mPro...?&prod=33-2936
I actually run the JCW intake on my car, it showed the best torque gains and was quiet as I don't like the loud intakes. Plus all plastic doesn't absorb the heat.
I have an 09 fjcw with a standard S intake as well, it turns out the intake was an additional option (like the JCW suspension)
It's nice to see Way advertise that he uses it. I bought one from him on his recommendation, but I couldn't find him publicly recommending it.
If it's on Way's daily driver, you know it's good!

Correct,
We have ran it on a factory JCW N14 engine and it a direct bolt on with the tube filter. Fits the N14 Cooper S engine also, as its part of the JCW tuning kit.
I would recommend the little gasket also , as the 2007+ R56 Cooper S and The Factory JCW N14 airbox uses the factory panel filter as a seal. otherwise it might rattle a bit. John Cooper Works Tuning Kit Intake does not come with that gasket seal.

If you want to change to a light oil foam filter , Pipercross has direct fit tube filter.

Gives you some options.

$27 for a gasket... I used gasket maker as recommended by WMW's website and rattle is gone.
That rattle was SUPER annoying... Worth the $27 if you want OEM. Just make sure the tech doesn't toss it when you have the filter changed. Or change it yourself! DIY FTW!

Sorry to revive this thread from the dead, but I need some help.
I am trying to get the older JCW Intake (Cone Filter) for my GP, but I am confused as to which OEM "S" N14 intake I need. I know I only need to bottom part from the N14 intake, but I am having a hard time seeing which part number it is for the whole intake. I see 13717577509 and 13717607777, but they seem to look exactly the same on the diagram. One is supposed to have 5 self-tapping and the other with 4, but both diagrams show 4 self-tapping screws. Which one is it?
Thanks in advance!
