Alarm wont turn off!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all, let me set the scene ........................ in bed at 7am after only 4 hours sleep (I work as a chef) peacefully dreaming when all of a sudden I'm woken by my wife saying that my car alarm is going off!!!!! I told her it didn't have an alarm (I've never heard it go off in the 2 years ive had it and presumed it just had a factory fitted immobiliser) she returned upstairs again saying it was definitely my car!! as all the tools were in the lock up I struggled with a pair of pliers after locating the siren and took it off.

I noticed the battery charge indicator colour was black so I presumed I'd left something on ....... radio, interior light etc and that had drained the battery and when the voltage was at a certain point the alarm had gone off. I charged the battery yesterday and fitted it again this morning after putting the siren back on ................................. THE FOOOOOOKING THING WENT OFF AGAIN!!!!!!! neighbours curtains twitching again (it was 8am) so I quickly removed the siren, I had it in my hand when ...................................... IT WENT OFF AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! I took it inside the house. wrapped it in 3 or 4 towels and put it in the washing machine and closed the door ............................ peace at last . I presumed that nothing would work without this fitted and the car would be immobilised but it starts and runs with no warning lights.

I presume its ok to use the car in this state but I don't know whether the problem lies with this unit or whether the problem is elsewhere and is setting this off? I buy another siren? Is the car still immobilised without this siren fitted?? as there is no flashing anymore on the end of the indicator stalk.

Anyone else had this issue and if so what did you do?

Thanks

Hello,

So the siren went off in your hands after unplugsed? Some of the tilt sirens are shared with BMW and MINI and suffer this same problem.

There were two different sirens in the early years of the R50/ R53 Chassis.

I think they have back up battery in the Serine as the back states disspose Ni-MD. I bet its a bad Serine.

I know you are in the UK.

Which one does it look like ?

Tilt Sirene 65756914293

Or

Tilt Sirene 65756970943

Just match up for replacement.

Thanks

You are welcome. Now you know the part. On older BMW there was some alarm error failure with these similar units. They would stay on like you said. Not too many people got the alarms back in the day, price and all. So there are few reports of failures on MINI side..

Glad I could help.
