R60 What rpm do you shift at/maintain
What rpm do you shift at/maintain
I'm new to the countryman and am trying to learn where the engine is happy, what rpm's bring best mileage, at what rpm does the car not produce more power
I'm driving a 1.6 non turbo cooper countryman

i have both a countryman turbo awd and a clubman non turbo, both stick.
they are totally different shifting experiences.
the countryman (turbo) i can pretty much shift whenever i want. if it's low, you can wait on the turbo to spool and then off you go, without downshifting.
with the clubman (non turbo), you have to work the gears. i drive from the bay area to tahoe all winter and summer and the clubman is almost always above 3k on the way up. even around the bay area, on the flats, the clubman revs pretty darn high, perhaps shifting at just shy of 3k.

That exactly what I was looking for...
my previous car (VW Passat B6) had a 2.0t, and no matter where I shifted the car didn't bonk down.
now in my new countryman I have to be more conscious of what gear I'm in and shift points, not a bad thing just part of the N/A mini driving experience. btw I love my Mini

honestly, the clubman (non turbo) is still a hoot to drive, especially up hills. you really feel like you're driving when you rev it way up and then speed shift to keep the rpm's up.
with the turbo, you can shift whenever you want and maybe get some turbo lag.
but with the non-turbo, "you got's to plan ahead..."
Thanks
We clearly have similar taste, I went to the dealership to get a clubman but it was less expensive to get in the countryman
