A week ago I changed the waterpump, timing chain and guides on my 08 Clubman. Then this morning I changed the oil/filter and brakes. When I started it up it threw a code P0012. Could the vanos solenoid just be dirty? I tried clearing the code but it just came right back. I used the proper tools, with new cam bolts when I did the timing chain. And it ran fine after I did the timing chain and waterpump. I drove it about 5 miles or so after. I wasn't able to drive it today, as I was trying to finish the stereo install too. Also how do I reset the service notifications when I start up? Thanks in advance.

Yeah I read that. I'm starting to think its cause I used a cheap oil filter. Car runs great, but will throw the code at idle after sitting. Think the filter isn't shutting the bypass valve all the way. Code will only show up at idle, cold. I'm getting a filter from the dealer today.

 

Did the filter fix the problem?

Gotta bring this back up. I changed the intake vanos solenoid yesterday and the p0012 code went away. Drove it all over yesterday (65 miles) and no issues whatsoever. But driving to work today I get a p0015 code. What the hell is going on? Do I gotta pull the valve cover and check the timing again? Why would the code move from the intake side to exhaust side? I don't see how the intake and exhaust vanos solenoids would both go out. I'm stumped

 

I actually swapped my vanos solenoids after getting the P0012 code. After the swap I still got the P0012 code. I read that cleaning the connector might help.

 

had the p0012 code, was the intake vanos solenoid (after I did the timing guides/chain and tensioner) too bad, also recently had p0015 it was the exhaust vanos solenoid. No issues with 163K

 

I also had the P0012 code and fixed with new intake vanos solenoid.

 

New to owning a MINI 08 MCS/6sp and forum. The P0012 code popped up for me this week. Scan Gauge 2 and Mini dealer confirmed vanos solenoid needs clean/replaced. I picked one up while there thinking I'm pretty handy in the garage. I can't seem to find a forum or description, write up any where on where this is actually located. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Awesome - now how do I get to it. CIA off but I still don't see anything that resembles what I am looking for. Thinking I must be blind!

 

Maybe I should ask a better question. What all needs to come off to access the vanos for removal? Anything I should be cautious of removing as I dig deeper?
