R53 JCW 2006 Correct Oil temp.

I have searched and seriously cant find anything the specifically says what is normal for oil temp.

Mine runs just a little bit under where the three is on this pic on the right when I am on the highway.

Is that normal or should it read exactly on the second tick?

I am looking forward to changing the oil to see if that makes it run a little cooler. Thanks for looking.

After looking at that pic, its hard to read but the indicated line is just a tad over the second click.

This Is My Original Gauges For My
MCS 04 The Volts & Oil Temperature.

My Oil Temperature Always Stay Like The Picture Shows.

But If I'm Goin To The Freeway N' Push Hard To The Gas Goin To 100C° Sometimes Little More But Never To The Next Line From 100C°

But After Couple Minutes Goin Back To Little Low The 100C° Like The Picture.

I Hope That Help You.
Have At Nice Motoring Day!

Seems like half way is pretty much good for all the gauges. I know boost is at half way on the highway. Temp gauge is always half way (actually a little bit to the right of it) and my oil temp is just a tiny bit more than half.

i usually run just shy of 200 deg F, and im here in FL.

i guess if its really hot out and im pushing it, slightly over 200, maybe like 210? its usually fairly similar to the actual engine temp according to the coolant; which would make sense since the coolant is being used to heat / cool the oil.

Mine stays just under that second tick mark once it is up to temp.
The oil temp gauge on my WRX is usually about 70C but will climb to just over 90C on a warm day after an autox run. It will go back down after a few minutes of idling.
I would say 100C is too hot and below 70C is too cold for any engine..

Ok..so hypothetically, I had the car up to 110 this morning. The oil temp almost went to the 3/4 mark. I still have no idea what that actual temp is so I will stay with 1/4, 1/2 ...3/4 and 320.

After I ...in theory....went back down to 80-90...it went back to half way.

Is this a problem or did the oil get that hot because it was running so hard? I cant find any info on this type scenario.

HYPOTHETICALLY OFFICER.

I would like to know this as well- hypothetically, of course. I could imagine a scenario where my gauge almost reaches the 3/4 mark, but typically is found around the 1/2 area.

What is safe/unsafe and what should/could be done to keep temps lower during hypothetical spirited driving?

This is what I found. It is fine running that hot because you wont be uh...going that fast for extended periods of time. If I were tracking the car, I would get an oil cooler but it is not really needed now.

After getting back to anything under 100, it goes back down to normal.

I HEARD of a guy running for 85 for an hour and it never moved so I am not concerned about the occasional hard runs.

So. Looking at this pic...normal temp is exactly at 1/2. Running the car hard gets it up the next tick but goes down quickly when you ease off the pedal a bit. I have never had it over the tick after half.

When you are pushing the motor the oil temps will increase because the motor is working harder causing the oil to get hotter. Once you slow down the oil will cool back down to normal temp.
Oil temps should be with in 50 degrees F of the water temp. So, 100C / 212F degrees is a good normal operating temp.

Again, Chris gives good info. If you do a search for threads on this subject, you'll find that no one can actually find an oil temp sensor in the system. We believe that it's a computer-calculated value. I, like others, elected to install a separate oil temp gauge with a sensor in the oil drain plug. It corresponds to the ChronoPac gauge. Even with an oil cooler, on-track oil temps can run as high as 240 F. Running synthetic oil like MOBIL 1 or similar presents no problem. 200-212 F. is expected for normal driving environment.
