long drive in modded r53

hey everyone .. I have a 2004 MCS with a 15% reduction on the supercharger pulley.. now I don't have any troubles with the car but I just haven't driven it for an extended period of time before.. this will be a 10 hour trip... is there anything I should be concerned about driving it this kind of distance with a reduced pulley other then stock?

Potentially a cramp from grinning for hours?

I took my JCW R53 with the 12% and a tune to Lincoln Nebraska for Nationals a few years ago.

No worries.

Cheers,

Charlie

Going to drive my 05 MCS with 15% pulley and stiff autocross suspension from Wisconsin to California and back in a few weeks. 4500 mile round trip. Not worried one bit about the car. Too bad for the oil industry who was hoping I'd take the Tundra Crewmax again and burn 200+ gallons of fuel.

I figure I may wear down my crazy cambered tires a bit much and maybe get a flat in the middle of the desert as a result, but that's the adventure part of the drive. Still looking for some interesting side roads to hit. Interstates are mind numbingly boring.

Same boat, I want to drive from NYC to FL and back in July, I'll have to check the car and make sure that is all ok, I lowered the car and have a 15% pulley as well but is first time driving it that far, so far I plan to have some tools with me just in case I hope that I remember to take the spare tire with me lol, coolant ,oil etc.. I can average 38 MPG on my 05 S but I'm just afraid that I'll get bored and push the car lol, the trip is boring as it is

Yea, four things I always tell anybody about to take off on a road trip.
1. Don't pass up an opportunity to refuel before you run out of fuel.
2. Keep your wheels between the ditches.
3. Keep your mind between your ears.
4. Keep the greasy side down.

Last June we took a three week 5,000 mile road trip without a single issue...except some idiot decided to kick a dent in the off side A panel at some motel somewhere in Indiana.

Just had my 10-year old modded R53 on a long road trip on Memorial Day weekend, with the wife and 2 kids in the back seats. The car did wonderfully. My wife complained at one point about the seats, but it had been 3 hours since we had gotten out of the car at that point, which I feel negates her comment.

So, no, nothing to worry about!

You may have to resist the urge to downshift and smoke some slower vehicles, and if it's in your review mirror...remember...it's losing...

i did a 3 day drive from FL to south dakota last summer (and 3 days back 3 months later). im rockin a 17% jcw with a pile of other mods. no issues. your 10 hours should be cake.

best advice: get a radar detector (but watch out if your in states that outlaw them), use cruise control to save on gas, get an oil change if your anywhere near that "time" to do so, and make sure your tires have been balanced / rotated if its near that time as well.

it may also be a good time to use a bottle of injector cleaner. i do this regularly. dont be afraid to get the $5 bottle instead of the $2 bottle.

Radar detector is a good tool to have, the OP should be fine in my case I'll have to turn it off when I get to DC and Virginia, they are the only 2 states where radar detectors are illegal.

if your going through virginia, you should take it down completely... if they even see that thing they will pitch a fit. they wont let you off with just "turning it off".

dont care for virginia too much with regards to tickets; got one there for "speeding" (it really was an accident). tried to refuse to sign the ticket and was threatened with being arrested and car impounded! wowsers.

I've driven to VT from NY a bunch of times without any problems and it's easily 6hrs+ one way. Definitely get a radar detector. This one is shielded and cannot be detected by radar detector detectors, plus is has a lonnnnng range :-) http://www.amazon.com/Escort-0100006.../dp/B002LZUY8A

i have an r50. im about to drive it on a 2,000 mile trip in a few days. the farthest i have driven it so far was about 20 miles round trip. yep 20 miles.
i have a megan exhaust kit and a very open cai. (intake is louder then the exhaust sometimes)
good question --- what is a good rpm for a mini (n/a and s) that gets the best mpg? rpm/mpg ? but on my trip im going over 70mph so my rpm will be over 3,000 LOL :D
.

20 miles wow lol. Doing 60 to 65 mph I can get an average of 35 to 37 mpg I guess that it would be more with a justa.

The zen of motoring was just struck a wounding blow.
To the OP: PLEASE acquire a copy of these two books and read them carefully.
1. Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert M. Persig
2. Blue Highways by William Least Heat Moon
Learn the art of minimalist packing and get thyself off into the countryside and see the world around you.

PS: That picture in my signature...That is THE Tow Mater, the actual tow truck that gave the Pixar guys the idea. You gotta drive some back roads to get to him as he watches traffic drive by on Route 66.

im at the half way point. she is freaking awesome on the highway. smooth and steady. and i've been pulling about 36ish mpg doing about 80mph.
even drove some with the windows down and the pan.sunroof open. nice and enjoyable. i started in central Texas. im on the border of Tennessee and Kentucky now.
the exhaust LOL vibrates my butt and back pretty nicely hahaha
the roads here :O ohmygoodness im in love. now i want to tame the Dragon.
i usually drive my suv across the county but i dont like to drive that big lump of gas guzzling beast. just to big. but Marie ..... she is fun and she dominates on the highway.

We've taken many long road trips in my previous 03S (15% pulley, CAI, 16" WITH RUNFLATS). Including 2 trips to Florida from Massachusetts (at the time it was 4years old, with around 80/90k miles on it).

1st was 24hr trip with just my wife, MA->FL, FULLY packed with food and supplies for a full week's worth of vacation. We even slept in the car on the way (we were 30/23yrs old). In December. My best was squeezing 38mpgs..

2nd was our honeymoon to Florida, again, packed to brim. 21hr drive.

We're doing a 14hr (straight through) trip from Massachusetts to South Carolina in July with our year old twins in my 06 JCW (17" and JCW suspension- with NO CRUISE CONTROL or sunroof). This time with a roof rack and cargo box.. Can't stress how adding a roof rack made life easier.

Just check/change fluids/tires a bit before the trip to make sure they're all fresh and no leaks.

I wonder how much will the roof rack / cargo box will affect the MPG, not that I'm planning to have one but jus curious
