Welding advice for new tips on aftermarket exhaust

I think this 2.5in exhaust with monstrous 4in tips:

http://www.cntracing.com/CNT-Racing-.../cb-07mini.htm

I'm happy with the exhaust, but the 4in tips are touching the bumper, no matter how I mess with the pipes, so I'd like my welder to put on new tips. Here is a closeup of the current 4in tips:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS574krFgrg

Is it as simple as purchasing 2.5in interior diameter tips like these that have a 3in outside tip and then he can work his magic?

Thanks!

Do not weld... Shim your exhaust hangers with washer until you get up you desired height. May take 10-15 washers. Take the hangers off the exhaust at the rear and gently lower the muffler onto something like a shoe box. Stick your head under there and you will see 4 bolts, remove them and place the washers under the two exhaust brackets as needed. It may take a couple of shots. DONE

I've bent the exhaust hangers on the muffler slightly as well as the ones that attach to the car, but at this point there are at an angle where the muffler slips off the hangers.

But I've seen the way the exhaust hangers on the body of the car attach:

I understand shimming could help here, but doesn't that piece of metal wrap around to the end of the body of the car in the pic? How would I wedge shims in there? And if I could, wouldn't I be bending that long piece of metal / letting water get up in there and possibly rot?

Ok, so you bought a cheap POS exhaust, that wasn't made very well, doesn't fit well.

How about you take it to a real shop, and have them fix the crappy bends, and weld the sections together so it does fit?

At least the Inveida I had for a week fit well. Droned like a sob, but it fit.

Really didn't need the attitude Richard. We're all adults here, I'd appreciate it if you saved your venon for another forum post.

Anyway, the exhaust sounds wonderful with no drone with even a resonated down pipe and fits fine under the car. I just wanted advice on welding on new tips. It seems simple, but I haven't done it before so wondering if I'm missing something. I don't like the tips anyway, so replacing them seemed like the way to go. Thanks.

VIP Custom Downpipe back... Anyway, I feel Richard's pain about Mini owners who go for cheap and then come here to complain. Good luck, Bster. Good B5 name!

I didn't think I complained, I haven't trashed the manufacturer or anything like that. I asked for folks to brainstorm a bit. Oh well, I think I'm good thanks.

Honestly what I would do is extend your rear hangers. To me that would be the best way to go. Ive done that on quite a few exhausts.

That's a good idea, hadn't thought of that. I'll run it by my welder. Thanks for the advice.

Those are some pretty large tips! After looking close at your video you should have no problem extending the hangers a bit. It wont take much at all to get some better clearance.

Yeah my welder thinks it'll be easier/cheaper. And when he;s done I can still hang a pipe on them and adjust them, they won't be any less strong when I try to bend them. I'll only need a centimeter added.
