Retrofitting satellite radio
Retrofitting satellite radio
What is a reasonable cost for a dealer to add satellite radio to a 2014 Countryman? I have been quoted $620 but have seen prices in other threads ranging from $350 to $500 so $620 seems high. Is there a standard rate for this?
i paid 500, but it came with a free year of sat ... still expensive but the dealer closer to my home said 1000 ...
.i can't live with out it so it was a no brainer. Call around and see what other dealers are charging .

I was sitting last week in the Mini service area and overheard the MA responding to a customer about Sirius was just under $500 to code in (assuming the radio already has it.) The price still seems pricy for simply a code. The option on a new Mini with 1yr included is only $250. I will say I like having the Sirius installed but for $50-$80 I could have added an external Sirius player with more functionality. For example, when stations are saved using the Presents buttons, during playing it does not display the song/artist nor does it display the artist image...
My 2010 R56 was bought off the lot and did not come with satellite radio installed. I added a Sirius receiver to it, and used a cupholder mount that I had also used in my 2006 R50. It worked well, but I never liked the fact that it wasn't built-in. My Countryman has satellite radio built in, and while the display doesn't show as much information as the separate unit, I like the fact that it is neater, and I also like being able to use the steering wheel controls to change channels.

I agree. I like the built in unit just for the sake of looking uncluttered.
Before spending $500 for a retrofit, find out if the 2014 radios are capable of channels above 220. My 2013 didn't.
I ended up getting a SiriusXM Onyx (with all th enew stations) for free from XM, and haven't looked back.
