Rear Bumper Cover

Does anyone know where to purchase a rear bumper cover for an 08 Justa? Had a literal fender bender but don't want to turn it in for insurance. Body shop wants over $1000. I called Mini thinking I could just put in on myself, but thats still over $800 painted (astro black).

I'd start with a junkyard, maybe you can have someone find one that is your color. Most junkyards are linked, so they can see inventory from other yards. Maybe start with lkq.com, they are nationwide.

What part of the country are you in? You could also post a 'wanted' ad in the marketplace.

Have fun,
Mike

I'll try to post up a pic tomorrow.

I'm in the Chicago area. The body shop checked for an aftermarket one, but apparently no one make one. They also looked for a decent used one, but said they were almost the same price as a new one and they all needed a little work and the price would be about the same.

Try www.Car-Part.com and plug in years where the bumper would be compatible with yours.

It was a front bumper cover for mine, but I found one here on the NAM marketplace for only a couple hundred. Was able to find a shop to paint it for me cheap and handled the install myself. Ended up running about $400 total.

If you can do a little wrenching, DIY as much as you can to cut the cost.

Here you go. The white on the quarter panel is mostly paint transfer from the other car. There is a tiny spot about 2-3 mm across that may be to the bare metal. The body shop suggested I could clean it and put a dab of clear nail polish over it to keep out moisture and prevent rust.

If I can't find a new cover on the cheap I may just try to pop this out and live with it. The plastic is definitely cracked on the upper part of the dent.

The good thing is that you can be a bit patient. Get some polishing compound, and get rid of the white transfer. That will make it look much better. The prices are stupid-expensive for MINI, but I would pick up some touch up paint, you probably have a few stone chips on the front as well. After the white is removed, brush the color on the metal, along with a coat of clear.

Park the car with the bumper in the sun on a clear day, that will soften up the plastic (and paint), and you may have a better chance bumping it back out.

Unfortunately, $800 sounds about right to buy a new bumper and have it painted. There are some vendors here that sell parts at a discount (ECS, Sewell, Mini of atlanta), but the shipping will eliminate any savings that you would have had.

Good luck,
Mike

Your repair tips are about what I was thinking too. I'm a bit impatient though and would probably remove the bumper cover and use a heat gun. Depending on what's behind and how bad the crack is I may use some fiberglass mat for reinforcement.

As for the price of a new one, I am really hoping to find a used bumper cover from an Astro Black that is in decent shape. Even if used prices are near new prices, I would save $400 for paint.

You can pop that out. A little sanding and some paint from NAPA will cost you less than $30. If you want to go the extra mile, fiberglass cloth behind there will work pretty good. There is also bumper specific resin, but I have no experience with that.

So can anyone point me to instructions on how to remove the rear bumper cover. Google pointed me to a thread here at NAM, but the links in the thread were all dead.
