I have an 08 Mini Cooper S with a K&N replacement air filter and a aftermarket muffle. No other mods.


I have been lurking here a while and love the info I have been getting from you guys/gals.
But I have a strange sound (sounds like tires squealing) when the engine is revving past 5k and also when in Sport mode above 4k rpm. I just installed a free'r flowing muffler and didn't hear this sound before. Now I took it back to the muffler shop and they checked all the welds and found no leaks. I took him for a spin, and he said "WTF is that sound?" That's what I said.....


On a side note, if I idle for an extended amount of time (taking a nap with the A/C on. Its hot here in Florida). I will get ALOT of white smoke out the exhaust for 3-4 high RPM revs to blow it out.


I do suspect my turbo oil seal may be bad, but do you think the strange noise is my turbo getting ready to let go ?

Here's probably the most complete info on your problem that I suspect is a dying turbo, link. You must stop driving your Mini until you know for sure!
