rear moon roof ?

did anyone ever figure out if the rear moon roof opens? Maybe someone who has theirs now can answer this.

There was a thread somewhere about it not opening, even though the online info says it does.

I think it's been determined that only the front half opens. Maybe to cut down wind noise?

Do you mean actually open wide or tilt? Both panels have tilted since 2011 I believe.

Rear portion is fixed. Front portion tilts and slides rearward.

Then why is there a blank spot to the right of the controls of the other sun roof? Its almost as if it was an option that wasn't picked...?

thanks, that's what I thought, even though it is advertised as moveable for front and rear, i guess they for what ever reason decided not to include that option this year

No, both panels do not tilt. Only the forward panel. Forward panel tilts and retracts over the rear panel. Rear panel is fixed and has no track or movement.

Nope, that was just a R56 thing.

Actually I think I prefer it that way (front only opens). I'm not sure I even had checked that. It was part of a package I added for other items and wasn't on the top of my list.

Both tilting from what I have gathered has ended with the R56 generation. Also I have a 2007 and both tilt, so the 2 tilting function started then.

What blank spot are you referring to, Eric? My car has no blanks on the roof: there is the main center switch for the sunroof, three switches for the interior lighting, and another switch for the interior mood lighting color control.

That's a shame..I liked the both tilt option.. the more and more options I liked the more they drop them! Maybe they will bring it back in the up coming years..

Dangit. Another hit against the F56. I'm getting less and less likely to order one at this point. Just too many changes of things I loved.

Double-tilt

I wouldn't worry about not having the double-tilt moon roof. I have a 2012 with a moon roof, and while it looks kind of cool when they are both tilted up, it really doesn't do much. I rarely only tilt it...it's either open all the way or closed. The new one will probably be more trouble-free since there's fewer moving parts.

Exactly. Plus, on the R50/R53 (which some around here regard as the pinnacle of the new MINIs [I say this with much sarcasm]), only the front panel tilted as well.

I really don't personally care that the rear section doesn't tilt. But I can understand why someone with an R56 might miss it.

Agreed, it looks cool and I drive with them vented all of the time but I won;t be upset enough to not consider it. The paceman did the same thing.

If they cant make a decent double moon roof to tilit because they are afraid of troubles what does that say about the rest on the car..lol. I still hope they bring it back in time.

We don't know why the rear doesn't tilt. MINI may have a very good reason for doing this.

Personally, I could care less if the rear part tilts. But YMMV.

I guess I feel I would miss it as I usually do the tilt function over the fully open, especially when it's not warm out and like the dual vent. But you bring up a good point on the moving parts. Also, anyone know if the screens are that mesh crap still or finally solid like most cars?

It's just all these 'little' changes for 2014 are starting to add up for me ha. Oh well, we'll see.

Its a mesh, see steve1ddd's great video he made yesterday, he shows a good shot of it with the sun overhead at about the 25 minute mark.

awwww, dangit, that wasn't my goal, I feel kindred to you since our cars are probably sitting near each other at that south hampton dock right now. My bad

(edit) I noticed yours has already made it to the US, so I guess not. But you're still cool, hehe.
