Engine light/no acceleration after installing Sprint Booster - R56 HB

Hello everyone,

I just installed Sprint Booster on my 2011 Mini Base with MT. I followed the exact directions as mentioned in their documentation. I can assure you that the connections are firm and secure. I have a couple of problems going on now:

1. The engine light is on. When I turn the car on, I see the engine light symbol on the steering wheel control. At the same time, the engine light shows up on the center speedometer/dashboard too.

2. The car does not respond to gas pedal the 1st time it starts. I always have to turn the car off and on the second attempt, it seems to be working fine.

I am really impressed with the SB and I am starting to have super fun driving the car. The transition to 2nd gear is so so smooth now. With these 2 problems, I am starting to think, if its worth it. The second issue listed above freaks me out thinking what if the car stops accelerating while I am on the freeway.

Has anyone seen these issues before?

Thanks.

So I spent a good amount of time looking for posts that mention these issues and turns out quite a good number of people have seen this. Their solution claims to not touch any button while leaving the door open during installation.

I'll redo the entire installation process and see if the problem goes away. Will post my findings soon.

Thanks.

in a minor note, if you have a manual transmission it's you and your foot that has the control over a smooth transition between gears....

No luck. Did the following:

1. Leave the door open for 10 minutes
2. Remove sprint booster and go back to factory setup
3. Start the car. Engine light still there. Go to Check-Info, it remains blank with no info.
4. Leave the door open for 10 minutes
5. Install SB
6. Start the car. Engine light still there. Go to Check-Info, it remains blank with no info.

Someone on the other post said they has to wait for almost half an hour after leaving the door open so will try it out.

Good luck with yours. I imagine you should be ok since so many people have installed SB without any issues. Its just my mini acting all crazy.

Just had mine installed yesterday. The driver's door was left open for

approx. 1/2 hour before things were taken apart and put back together.

No cel thrown and runs great, big, big improvement on throttle response

in race mode. So far well worth the expense. Car is a 2012 R58 JCW.

not a mini professional, but- have you tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer? generally, most cars with OBD2 require a "Reboot" to reset the CEL mode. Not sure about the mini though... might be worth a shot though...

If the engine light didn't go away, why did you proceed to reinstall the sprint booster again? First get it back to a 100% clean, working factory state. If necessary, try resetting it by disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes.

Thank you for the responses. Since the engine light was not willing to go away I thought might as well drive it with the booster. I think I remove the booster, reset the computer as thadscottmoore mentioned and leave it like that for a week or so. If things continue to remain green, will try to put the booster back.

Btw, I went to the dealer for an oil change and he said he would charge me %180 just to diagnose the engine light. Isn't that crazy? I just ordered the scanner from Amazon for $24. Hoping to get some clues. Will update in a couple of days.

Thanks.

Hi all

I would like to ask if anyone else stumbled across this problem? and how you got around to fixing it?

I installed my sprint booster, and I too have no throttle response. However I didn't try re-starting the car to see if that works.

But I reverted everything back to original and it still doesnt work! CEL and no throttle response with the original harness plugged in. Can anyone please advise me on what I should do? Thanks so much for your help!!

It may be possible there is a difference between manual and automatic transmission for sprint booster. The one on my automatic BMW 135i doesn't work on my daughter's MT 135i. When searching I noticed there is a different part number for BMWs as well as for MINIs depending on transmission.
