My Impression on UUC LightWeight Flywheel

I had this installed not too long ago, and if you can deal with the noise...I strongly recomend a light flywheel.
My concern with this particular one (and I think it's actualy the Fiorenza or something) is that from a dead start, if I give to muchh gas, I can hear this sound coming from that area that sounds like a metal to metal screetch (very loud)
It only does this from a dead start, and only if you are trying to get a powerful start (or simply give it too much gas.) it never does this otherwise.

At first I thought it might be the PhantomGrip, since it was installed at the same time, but then I heard that someone else has this problem, and they installed the same flywheel as me.

Can anyone elss confirm this directly? Does anyone out there have a NON-segmented (12-13lbs) flywheel that makes/doesn't make this sound?

Thanks,

L

Well...the clutch that came with the package was the wrong one (right part number but the part was not for a mini) so I'm still using the stock clutch.

You have the fywheel (12.XXlbs) and you get no nois what so ever in when launching from first? That's great, but then what do I have? Maybe by placing a Spec II it would go away...

after talking to several others having that noise problem as you are having i noticed they all have the stock clutch still, thats one thing that i have noticed in common, where as the other that have replaced the clutch at the same time havent had the noise, but that to me raises another question, what if you put a new clutch(stock) would the noise still be there?, according to spec if you use an stock flywheel it should be resurfaced when you put a new clutch, so maybe there is an break in problem.. i still am not sure if this is the fix, but i have never had a problem, like this in all my years of working on various cars, but it seems to be the only common link.....

Cool...so if I go ahead and save up some money and drop in a Spec II the sound should be gone? (I won't hold you to that of course but still)

So all I have to do now is find some investors for the 10hr job and I'll be set :P

Thanks CADMan...

I am thinking that should fix, it, but until someone tries we wont know, that seams to be the diffrence between the noisy ones and the quite ones, the only other thing it could be is the throwout bearing, which would be replace when you put in a new clutch, but that would make noisy when the clutch is not engaged or in nuetral, let me know i am very curious to the results, thats the only logical answer i can think of.........

I have the same noise(s). One is the chirp, the other is the ever-present clatter. The chirp, as discussed, will probably go away with a new and more heavy duty clutch.

The clatter, however, is just part of the UUC Flywheel charm??? Anyway, based on UUC Motorwerks' recommendation I'm going to replace the tranny fluid with Redline MT 90. I live in Southern California, so I wouldn't recommend this to cold climate MINIs, but it should quiet the clatter. . . .at least partially. . .and, obviously, it's not an expensive fix to try.
