long time lurker, first time poster. I have a 2012 Mini Cooper Coupe, Base, and went in for my 16K mi service this past weekend. Got the car serviced and was told something was leaking and the oil leak was getting into the computer. Not sure, but was told it's a know problem and got it fixed under warranty.

That said, got my car back and within 5 miles of the dealership, the car throws a check engine light. Pull the code, and it was a P0442, supposedly a minor leak in the fuel system. Got back into the dealership and they apparently fixed it by reprogramming the ECU? based on what I found, most people do the smoke test to see where the leak occurs and fix it that way.

My question is, when they reprogram the car, are they just masking the problem by somehow decreasing the sensitivity of the sensors, or is reprogramming the car truly a fix?
