Remember me just means that it should put your username and password into the login field. The site will log you out automatically after an hour of inactivity. This is to support those that use the site at work ( Shame on you ) and walk away from your computers and don't want others to be able to access your posts.

Additionally it helps us better understand the level of traffic on the site so that we can keep ahead on the hardware side of things as the site continues to grow.

Fwiw, I constantly have to login. I'm using IE 6.0, and just about everytime I go to a new part of NAM, I either have to login or the upper-right corner indicates that I haven't logged in, although I have numerous times.

I just cleared browser files and cookies, retried, and the behavior seems no different.

Is it just me?

Thanks,
Dan

Give this a try as it sounds like your browser is caching the pages of the site:

1) launch IE
2) Click on Tools/Internet Options
3) In the temporary files section click Settings
4) Select every visit to the page
5) Click OK
6) Click OK

Thanks

Thanks, Mark. I made those IE changes, but it hasn't seemed to help.

I've noticed when I first visit NAM, and I can login as much as I want without ever actually logging in. To "force" the login, I have to click on a message in the Latest Topics are on the left until I finally will see my username in the upper right corner with my private message count, etc.

I don't have any of this kind of trouble on other websites.

I know you've got a lot of priorities, but I did want to let you know.

Cheers,
Dan

For Users Still Having Login Problems

1) Make sure you are using northamericanmotoring.com and NOT namotoring.com

2) To change the caching setting and delete cookies:

1) Launch IE
2) Click on Tools/Internet Options
3) Under Temporary Files click Settings
4) Select Every visit to the page
5) Click View Files
6) Look for a file with a name like Cookie:firstname
lastname@northamericanmotoring.com and delete it
7) Click OK
8) Click OK

If that doesn't work, let me know

I know this is frustrating. Thanks for your patience.
Dave

Are there any plans to get things working properly with www.namotoring.com? Our office recently implemented restricted web access and they missed www.namotoring.com. I can browse around just fine, but can't login.

It's not that big of a deal if it's a pita to make both domains work.

The only way namotoring.com is going to be "fixed" is for it to redirect people straight to NAM. So actually, that's going to hurt you viewing the site from work. Sorry about that, but it's really the only way to keep people from continueing to use namotoring and having login problems.

Again, people should be using NorthAmericanMotoring.com and not namotoring.com to avoid having login problems

Me too!
Before the switch, when the NAM homepage loaded, the user name and password would load automatically, and I only needed to click on 'log in' button. Now I have to enter my username and password and then click log in. I'm spoiled! But I'm not as likely to forget my password now. Oh, I use Netscape 7.1, if that might have anything to do with it.

I have not figured out how to start a new thread and how to insert my MINI photo. For whatever reason this site does not "to me" seem very user friendly. I'm sure it's just me but I need help!!!!!

Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MiniMight, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
  1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
  2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

To post a new thread:

1) Just under the North American Motoring banner (top of page) click on Forums
2) Click on the forum of interest to you
3) When the thread list of that forum displays look immediately under bottom-left of the sponsor block and you should see the New Thread button. Click this button to start a new thread.

As for a MINI photo:

1) We are currently working on deploying a new gallery system so that you can upload images to the site. Until that time you must have the image hosted somewhere on the web so that you can access via URL.

2) Either in a post or in your signature (User CP > Edit Signatur) click on the image icon and enter the URL to your image.

Let us know if we can be of further assistance.

Mark

My problem was that the bookmark was:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com./

I corrected it to:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.com/

(deleted the trailing dot) and now all works well.

I have had the worst time logging in today, it has taken 15 mins of trying different things to get it to accept my login and i just signed up yesterday. If this happens everytime I may not be able to continue.

I've emailed you with additional information. That said if you have been able to post to the forums you have been logged into the site. Let me know (via email) if you need further assistance.

Best regards,

Mark

Man did i have login problems like you wouldn't believe. I joined nam about 2 months ago, and all of a sudden i couldn't login. I would put my user and password in, and it would thank me for logging in but when it went back to the forums i wasn't logged in. I was going crazy, i had numerous emails in the the tech support but (without sounding rude) they were useless. They told me it was my cookies, temp files etc... but i knew it wasn't as i am a member of tons of diferent forums and i never have an issue. I even had one tech guy email me back and tell me that he doens't know anything about windows and that i need to call microsoft or read my manuals....lol (i still have the email if you don't believe me). But anyway i finally found my problem with help from this thread. I had bookmarked https://www.northamericanmotoring.com (without the www.) so as soon as i changed the bookmark adding the w's then all was fine. So thanks for everyones input on this thead for getting me back to posting!!!!
