R57 How to change 2011 shifter knob and skirt
How to change 2011 shifter **** and skirt
I have found video and information on different years, but not the one I want. How do you change the **** and skirt on a 2011 s. It does not have the outter ring around the base of the skirt that clips of so easliy as the 1st gen does.
Before I take it apart I want to be sure I know what I am doing, thanks in advance.

Do you have the manual transmission ?
Its not that hard for the manual transmission shift **** and boot. Gen 2 MINIs are connected unlike the Gen 1 MINIs.
First you will have to get a no marring plastic tool or a credit card / small flat head screwdriver that thin and try to protect the plastic if you use screwdriver.
Work around the base trim until it pops out. Then grab with both hand and pull up on the shift ****. Watch your face and the sunroof when you pull up. Replace in reverse, just make sure the **** lines up with the notch on the rod, then push down.

Thanks

Thanks for the help, i was just messing with it I got the shifter off and see how that worked. I will try to take the skirt off when I get off of work. I mostly just want to replace the shifter, but good to have extra knowledge, thanks.
FWIW, I didn't remove the skirt when I replaced mine.
I pulled the **** off first, my readings were that it was attached firmly, takes a mighty pull. It is, and did, but not superhuman. I just made sure to stop pulling when it popped off to not tear or abuse the skirt.
Then: I separated the boot from the **** sleeve, using a butter knife edge to get it started.
10 minutes, if that.

I would agree with your description of taking the shifter **** off. Good point about the sleeve, I was just going ot try to make the new **** fit with the sleve it came with, I did not think about transferring, thanks.
