Under hood (bonnet) liner?

So I've had my 2013 R56 MCS for a week now....absolutely LOVE it. Just a quick question. I've been looking at adding a cold air intake some time down the road, and most of the installation instructions for all of the kits have you removing the under hood liner. I've noticed that my car does not have an under hood liner or any insulation. After searching the forums, it seems that many MINI's do come with an underhood liner, especially the turbocharged cars. Did MINI just forget to install this at the factory, or have they deleted it from the car mid production year? Anybody know? Thanks in advance.

My 2010 Clubman has no under hood insulation either. I think they had it on the early series 2 MINIs, but discontinued it.

The stock MINI cold air intake is engineered quite well. At worst, an aftermarket cold air intake will reduce horsepower at best it only makes more noise. You won't see any gains in power.

I second this! I got the AEM intake mainly for noise and to jazz up the under bonnet look Plus it gave me something to do

I've actually been looking at the NM Engineering Hi Flow Induction kit. The real benefit to that is the larger turbo inlet tube. But back to my question.....should my car have an underhood liner? I feel like no insulation will eventually cause paint damage and the hood scoop to warp as others have said.

They have the small heat insulation liners on and off, dependent if a dealership installed them with a hood scoop complaint or the owner wanted it to reduce the scoop warpage. For the newer ones it looks like its the full ones were installed on certain models while others did not have it at all.

Here a thread with the options.

Thanks

Not to deter you from NM, I love their products, great finish. I had full intention of getting the NM intake as well when I started. But I found several reports from other members talking about how the intake was a little wobbly and not as secure as other intakes. I don't know if they have fixed this or not.
Then again several people reported a whistle noise with the NM exhaust, and I have yet to hear a whistle. All I hear is ROAR!
