This kit shorten the height by about 1.5" and lengethens the lower linkage by about 1/4" This give an amazing short Throw and feel. It also Replaces the stock Rubber mounts with Anodized aluminum mounts that will Tighten the Shift up as well. This will wirk with the Stock ****, The Whalen Shift Machine, and most other After Market *****. Retail cost is going to be $65.00 and is your best value as far as a Short Shifter is concerned.

Please contact me for Pre Orders Dan@piloracing.com

We are posting this as to answer any questions about this great new kit.

I'd give it about a 6-7 for the install.

Regarding the Ebay Link. THat is only a 1" shortening as stated on the auction, where ours is a 1.5" shortening on the top, and a 1/4" extension on the bottom.

Thanks,
Dan

Will your short shift kit work with the '04 build MCSs?

sorry but can you show me where it says that it is a 1" shortening as stated on the auction? I looked hard but didn't see that.

Looks to be a great value Dan! The price is about half of what a ProMini or B&M short shift kit retails for. Are you also using 303 Stainless Steel for the shaft? 6061-T6 aluminum for the pivot? I have resisted purchasing a short shift kit because of installation concerns. I may be wrong, but do you not have to drop part of the exhaust system outmotoring.com/how_to/bm%20shifter/bmminishortshiftkit.pdf to install this kit?

I was just looking at all the short shifters on ebay with the same picture. one of them stated that. I don't remember which one it was.

This is for 02-03 still, need to wait on the 04.

ANd the install is the same as the alta and the B&M full replacememnt shifters. You need to drop the exhaust.

Thanks,
Dan

umm... can you give us a comparison between this kit and the b&M kit? i actually ordered one, and mine is on back order (i think you said 3 people ordered before me, and i got the unlucky shaft), and if this is the same or very comparable to the b&m, then i would like to purchase this one instead...

does it actually shorten the throw, or does it simply make the shaft shorter? (is there a difference? i thought there was, but i could be wrong...)

thanks (i just sent you an email too, dan)

oh, and this was developed by you and your company, and is not simply bought from some random seller on ebay, right? i think the multitude of shifters out there on ebay are all made by "maggie racing" or something. they have a website, i believe. anyways, so in short, this shifter WAS originally developed by mini pilo?

in the first post he states that they've added 1/4" of material below the ball (lengthened the linkage). I ASSume that's what it means - should be much like the B&M.

Looks sharp, almost identical to the B&M at less than half the cost. Giddie up!

Install CAN suck... mine went smashingly poorly when I installed the B&M. Not entirely due to the shifter though, mostly because of a completely rusted exhaust nut.

Screw the 04, we need to find out if this bad boy will fit the 05!!!

v-o-o___ economics? anyone?

any news or results on the comparison testing yet?

i'm trying to decide between the b&m and the pilo, and the only thing keeping me from getting the pilo kit is the comparability of the feel.

dan said that the kit will come with a rubber ring thing to make the whalen fit nice and firm. my b&m was on back order, and gave dan some trouble about that, but now i'm kinda glad!

err... i hope he hasnt shipped the b&m yet... hmm...

dan?

Dan, will this guarantee me not to miss second gear? I have had a problem lately getting back to second gear when I am on it hard. It catches just before getting all the way back into second. I think it may have to do with the sloppy rubbers.

Are they ready to ship now?

04 is in the air.

The stock rubbers are replaced with aluminum for a firmer feel.

A Suspension Repair took my whole day, so I did not get to do a comparison test. I am going to get some measurements though to help you all decide. The first 10 sets will be here early next week.

Your B&M did not ship yet and I have sent you an e-mail.

The height of the B&M and ours is about the sale.. Just under 7" from the ball. THe main diffrence is the point where the bend starts. The B&M starts about 3" above the ball, and the PILO is about 2" above the ball. This causes ours to be just a bit more foward then the B&M about 1/4" to 1/2"

The Rest is pretty much comparable. I didn't get under my car as I stated spen the whole day fixing suspension issues.

If some one has it un installed and can measure the bottob grom the ball to the cable mount, and post that, I can give the rest of the comparison.

Thanks
Dan

so i guess the only thing that remains is:

how does the kit feel? the only SS's i've felt were a s2000's and a rx-8's. if it feels something like that, then i'll be happy. also, i noticed that the stock lever had side to side movement, which i dont know if a SS kit helps at all, but who knows.

in either case, i'm on the first shipment (woohoo!). i'll TRY to install it when i get it, but who knows how that will go.

The Short Shifter is made with high strength billet steel and nickel plated for ultra low friction and corrosion resistance.

THe Feel is great as with all short shifters.. I love the shorter throw. there is always a little side to side movement, as that is a flaw in the Mini's Design.

When you say '03 are you referring to model year or build date. I think this is a great deal! I have a 11/03 build '04

Screw the '04's???? Those are fighting words!!

03 is Model year. You may have the 03 style though. To check pull up that silver ring about your shifter and see what color your shifter box is. White is 02-03, black is 04+

Thanks
