Retro-fit auto-dim mirror -which wire to tap for reversing function?

I am retrofitting my 2002 R53 with an auto-dim rear-view mirror. Not pre-wired so I have to splice. I can get power and ground from the overhead clock nearby.

But, the auto-dim mirror has a white wire which I believe undims the mirror while in reverse. I want to hook this up but don't know which wire to tap.

Anyone recommend where to go and which wire to tap? Use small words as I am a novice at this stuff

I have a factory installed auto dimming mirror in my 06. It has never un-dimmed when I shift into reverse. Never knew it was supposed to. Seems like an unnecessary function to me.

Happy to be wrong - but from what I have read - it should un-dim when you shift into reverse. Helps if you are going into a brightly lit garage or whatever...

You'll have the factory connector on your mirror - there should be three wires:
Blk = 12v
Grey = gnd
White = Reverse switch

I believe that the reverse wiring is missing if auto dim mirror wasn't installed at the factory. You'll have to run a wire down to the body control module behind the kick panel in the passenger footwell area.

Maybe mine came without it working. It has never bothered me that it doesn't un-dim in reverse.

Which wire/fuse would I tap though? Are the reversing lights fused individually there? Are any there any other circuits only active when reverse is engaged?

I looked at the wiring diagrams, and my memory was incorrect. The mirror taps directly into the reverse lighting wire that runs down the left side of the car. It is fused on F13.

Hello

For those who want to retrofit this mirror, correct wiring is as follow:
- Black = ground
- White = 12v (fuse F35)
- Grey = reverse (fuse F13)

I spent hours finding how to cable it. Hope this will help.

Cheers
