30K Repairs over 4 Years - 2 Minis - Extended Warranty Advice
Ok, so here's my question. I have two Minis. One is a 2009 and the other is a 2012. I'll skip all of the details, but between both, they have received over 30K worth of repairs under warranty. The 09 has EW but the 12 does not. I'm 2K miles shy of 50K and need to make a call to get EW before the 50K if I want the official Mini Warranty. Again, we have processed over 30K worth of repairs on both cars, so a warranty is not an option, but an obligation to have with our two cars. Has anyone had any luck in a similar situation in having Mini Corporate provide a courtesy discount or EW applied at no cost? If so what steps were taking?
LOL. I was afraid that question will come up. Off the top of my head, Turbo was replaced twice. Aux Pump Twice. High Pressure Fuel Pump was replaced twice. When the High Pressure Fuel Pump was replaced the first time some other fuel components were replaced as well. That was all within 12 or so months. There's a handful of other repairs that I just wanted to forget and I guess I have successfully done that
. But don't get so worried. I could have just gotten the sour batch.

I had all my plugs and injectors replaced at 7800 miles under warranty. They said my HPFP was ok and that was not replaced. I have been "trouble free" since and hope to keep it that way. As we get closer to my 4 yr / 50k marker, I will have a better idea if I want to keep the car or not. I would love to keep the car well beyond 200k!
AZdsrt, I agree. Like I said, its not an option with my situation. It's an obligation. If I want to keep the cars I absolutely NEED the EW on the 12 model. My inquiry is to see if anyone has been on my boat and has gotten Mini Corp. to grant them out of courtesy EW at no charge or at a considerable discount. I dont want to pay 4K+ an EW to just keep the car. I might as well get a Used Certified Honda and switch brands instead of coughing out any money on the coopers.
Given your experience, I do not understand the logic behind your hope that MINI will give you an extended warranty "at no charge or at a considerable discount."

I think you already know the answer but can appreciate you asking the question. The extended warranty is a product, and as such I think you have about as much chance of getting it free or almost free as much as you would if you asked for a new set of wheels for the car.
Maybe, the better financial option given what you have experienced is to trade it in on yet another new one and reset the clock on the warranty so to speak. (car pmt + warranty pmt = X OR New car pmt + included warranty = Less than or equal to X).

05r50 I'm in the middle of exploring this option as well, but with a used certified car warranty, definitely not starting from scratch with a new car and then paying EW.

I am taking delivery of my '09 Mini with 65K on Thursday this week (very excited). I have until then to decide on purchasing a warranty from the dealer (not Mini).
I've been riding the fence on the $2800 price tag for a 4/48 warranty. This would take me to 110,000 miles or, based on my driving, 3 years. It would be good for repairs done at a Mini or Chrysler dealer and has a $200 deductible.
Opinions?

Ramtastic, do your research on the Extended Warranty from a 3rd Party. A coworker of mine just had his first claim with his 3rd Party warranty that he procured from an actual Mini dealership. Well it was declined. It was for the Turbo which is a pretty costly fix. So again, don't get
, just make sure it's a reliable warranty company. Not all are made alike.

I paid $1200.00 for a warranty from Warranty Direct. I read the reviews and they were rated pretty good. I don't think it will be as easy to use as factory warranty but it didn't cost me $4000.00 either. I hope I never have to use it......
