Hungry Turbo

So...that happened today.

My turbo decided to 'eat' the rubberish seal from the air inlet. Looks like the heat warped it enough and it started deteriorating, and half of it got sucked through.

Brings up a few questions

1) Anyone selling a used turbo
2) Replace with new stock
3) Replace with new JCW
4) Replace with Alta
5) I assume I will need to remove intercooler and hope it caught all of the 'bits'. Suggestions on other things to check out?

Since I have the MCS, I don't know if getting an 'upgraded' turbo has advantages that make it worthwhile.

Thanks!

We've found just going with a new stock turbo the most effective solution.

Going with a bigger turbo will require much more work and tuning.

So this makes me ask, what do I need to look for on my own Turbo Cooper to prevent this?

As best as I can tell, pull off the air inlet hose, and there is a rubber insert. Check to see if it is deformed and/or cracked. If not you should be good.

I'm planning to have some performance work with way and I've done a bit of research. I've decided to not upgrade my turbo. It spools quickly and tips off the boost that the engine can safely handle for extended periods. Is it a daily driver?

And yes, listen to Way.
