you can find all kinds of lights

but they are ALL a bunch easier to mount if you bite the bullet and use the factory brackets

http://www.outmotoring.com/mini-coop..._brackets.html

brackets will cost you $60 or so but you can then find a decent set of lights for under $100 .. add some misc hardware to complete the install and done for under $200

how do I know? ... I've installed several sets for folks over the years . ..

My Hella's would NOT fit on the OEM brackets.

why?

hole in the bracket not big enuf? drill it out.

making a mod to the factory bracket vs fabricating your own mounts? Well I'd say a mod is easier than building your own, but can go that way when I need to since I can cut sheet steel, bend it, drill it and weld it in my garage.

If this is intimidating then find someone to install 'em for you. IMO the factory kit does NOT make this easier as they made the wiring WAY overly complicated . . . mounting is easy but the wiring for full factory is a PITA.

***********
BTW
My Hella's would NOT fit on the OEM brackets.
2011 CR MCS

GEN1 vs GEN2 .... different brackets . . .

GEN1 factory setup has the lights hung to the bonnet; GEN2 has 'em below. If you don't want the OE look then roll your own and anything goes . . . light bar below bumper being the popular option.

Did you try the regular Hella 500's on the oem MINI bracket on Gen 1 MINI , think the hole needs drilled a little bigger for the bolt.

or use a smaller bolt!

improvise, adapt, overcome

I usually throw all the provided hardware in the trash and replace with stainless steel . . . .
I hate pop-rivets ... I use stainless screws and nylocs . . .

and I don't charge for the install

ain't I a silly goose?

I have a '13 MCS with xenons (factory black housing) Does anyone know which wire would I need to tap for the 12v+ high beam?

Thanks

your answer lay within:

http://www.minimania.com/pdfile/R56_Rally_Lights.pdf

the factory install taps where the wire comes out of the control module . . .

Capt_bj,
What size screw do you use instead of the pop-rivets?
Thanks

I carry the bracket into ACE hardware and visit the nuts & bolts racks! I find something that fits in the hole diameter, usually about 1/2 inch long, hex head, finest threads I can get, stainless . . . some washers too. For a standard install this costs around $5

nice thing about ACE it this stuff is not in plastic packs so you can play around to find the right size, and then buy as many as you want, or just 1, the price is by the piece rather than a pack of 20 . . .
