Going catless on N18 on a budget

Is this possible to do? Basically is there any sort of work around to tell the ECU that the cat is still there without it actually being there BESIDES getting a $500+ tune? I'm asking this question for a friend as she's interested in getting a catless downpipe but simply can't afford the price to properly tune it. Or does anyone know of an affordable HFC that can be welded into a catless DP that will keep the ECU happy? Any ideas or input it appreciated! Thanks guys!

Yes, get the can tool from BMS. It's only $120 or something. It'll delete the cel light but not delete the pending code.

It's actually $180 but still a good deal.

Or you can get the Akrapovic Delete-R for $275. Another good choice but more expensive and more difficult to install but I does not occupy the ODB2 port so it allows other things to be plugged in at the same time.

Important note: these options will not pass most emission tests.

Thanks for the replies guys! The first option might actually do the trick as for the second one, that seems a bit expensive since youre only an extra 125 away from a full tune lol. Akrapovic isnt ever the cheapest option however so I sorta expected that. Appreciate the help guys!

If you/she can't afford it, don't do it. Wait until you can save up the money to do it correctly.
