CEL: NM Eng. Hi-Flow Induction Kit Check Engine Light

I just bought my wife and I JCW's. I came for a 2009 135i and she from a 2004 Honda Civic.

Hers happens to have the NM Eng. Hi-Flow Induction Kit on it Here.

When we first looked at the car and took it for a test drive, everything was fine. We did all the paper work and as we started the car to go home, the check engine light came on. I left the car with the dealership to get it fixed. The brought the car to me 2 days later. The light was off when the driver drove to my house, but as soon as we started it up, CEL.

Right now the dealership is going to buy me a stock intake and install it this coming monday. I am familiar with after market parts and CEL fixes, but I don't know what the fix is for this car as we just got it 2 days ago. Anyone have any advice? I searched the forum, but found nothing. TIA.

I'm not sure the problem is caused by the Induction kit. I ran the same one on my JCW for a while and had no CEL's. What are they telling you, what code are they seeing when they reset it?

Unless there is a leak after the MAF that intake kit will not throw a code.

What code are they getting?

"Resistor pack" WTF are they talking about? There is no "resistor pack" anywhere on that intake..

I've had the NM induction kit for almost two years on my R58 JCW, never

an issue.

Ok, so it looks like (from my desk) that someone tried to bypass the PCV heater - with a fixed resistor.

Thats not part of the NM intake kit - that is something else (I believe).

I am brand new to this car. How would I find this part? What is the point of bypassing the PCV heater?

http://locktheweb.com/misc/valve3.jpg Check that pic out. (That is an n18 engine) It has a heated PCV on the front -

The valve runs from the cam cover down to the air inlet just before the turbo.

I could be wrong.. but I think the JCW used the the N14 engine for a longer production run (into 2012?). Someone may have added a PCV block off - the N14 is known for carbon buildup on the valves. Someone may have bypassed it in order to try to slow the carbon buildup (however, its not the correct way to block it off).

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/128/3...a74b549bc2.jpg that is the N14. It has another style cam cover.

To get this sorted out, which one do you have?

Here is the NM on the N14 - http://a248.e.akamai.net/origin-cdn....g%3F1380726323

Here is the NM on the N18 - http://www.nm-eng.com/prod_images/xl...58857_img2.jpg

However, neither of them should have *anything* to do with the PCV setup on *either* engine setup.

(note the blue hose is part of the bigger intake - that still has nothing to do with a PCV fault..)

So the dealer took the NM intake out of the 2013 JCW and installed the stock box. No CEL at this point.

I did install the NM intake in the 2012 JCW and worked great! I did need to order a new metal mounting bracket as the 2013 used a slight different one, but for now its working fine with some zip ties

^ Good to hear. What do you think of it? Any noticeable difference in sound with it on your 2013?

No difference between the 2013 and 2012 except the CEL
