'09 Mini Cooper Clubman S oil leak...?

Hey guys new to forum first post...I guess I am a Noob so let the hazing begin!? Checked oil noticed that oil level not even up on apex area of dipstick before starting for the first time of the day. Put 2 quarts of oil in it and barely touching bottom of dipstick. Check engine light came on day before (amber color car outline on dash not blinking), started car after putting oil in. Oil dripping pretty steady. It only drips when engine is running so only happening when oil system is pressurized. Oil drip location is coming from passenger side. Covers most of the chasis under body front passenger side quarter has gotten all over passenger side rotors. Do not know what check engine malfunction indicator code is. Only has 45K on it love the car but not impressed with this flaw. Any input would be fantastic. Thanks Jeff.

Hey Jeff, Sounds like a possible timing chain tensioner backing out. I wouldnt drive it until you have it repaired. You can either tighten it yourself or have your local dealer replace the tensioner with an updated part and sealing ring. If it backs out significantly you run the risk of the cam gears skipping on the chain and bending valves. If its something else then disregard everything I just said but it seems like thats most likely your issue! If you shine a flashlight straight down on the back side of the cylinder head on passenger side about 4 inches from the top you can see the tensioner. If its backed out or starting to back out you'll have your answer!

Hope this helps!

tighten the timing tensioner on the back on the head, that is all.
