Plastidipped wheels

I've Got a 2007 R56 S that's astro black. I've been thinking about plastidipping the wheels gloss black I have the stock 8 spoke silver wheels. So if anyone has experience with this or has done this and has pics if you could show me or tell me your opinion that would be great

Buy some cans on black and some cans of glossifier. Watch some youtube videos of Fonzie from DYC and go at it.

Hi there, I did my wheels a while back and being the first time that I did this I made some mistakes but they came out ok, YouTube will help, some people take the wheels off the car others don't , I like to take them off to cover everything, the first time I used index cards to mask the tires at edges but to be honest I you don't need to do this, with the masking the dip may come off as you pull it out, the second time I did them I didn't use them and I covered more of the edge of the wheel. Since it's cold now you'll find yourself using more cans the when it's warm out, warm up the can by letting it soak in warm water for a few. Minutes before applying it, do as many coats as you can, it will be easier to remove later it will look great, 4 to 6 but 3 it's ok too the apply the glossifier, if You leave the wheels on the car make sure that you cover the car with plastic since the gloss will fly off and spread a bit more than the dip and stick all over the place, if does it's not a big deal but it's extra work that you don't need.
Here's mine

Did my 2010 MCS in the fall, its chili red, but i did mine in white, pretty easy, but if you decide to do any other color than black, be sure to use index cards or thick paper and place them around the wheel where it meets the tire, so it doesnt get on you tires, its pretty easy to peel off, but this just makes it easy where you dont have to do anything to your tires at the end

I wanted to put Glossifier on my already black wheels, so I questioned the effectiveness of the Glossifier spray.
Especially since I wanted an "almost wet" high gloss look.
But after seeing your pictures, it doesn't look THAT glossy.
Maybe it is a bit more satin than the original matte.
But it doesn't look actually "glossy" like I had hoped

I did the card trick the first time and found it was easier to rub the excess of the tire form overspray then to deal with cards falling over and window blowing them.

I agree it's not that glossy but, the reason I did use it was because I don't lake the flat black look, I only use one coat of glossifier but I still doubt that you'll get a wet look just not the total flat look

If you have any sense of perfection and appreciation for your MINI please do not plasti dip your wheels. Powerdercoat them. The finish is better than OEM, is tougher than OEM, and looks first class.

Plasti dip does not look at all like a premium finish. It's the, "I am in my youth and this is all I can afford," type of finish. Plasti dip is a disease sweeping the tuner scene!

Mention plasti dip in a circle of old school car guys and see what happens

What happens when you want to change the color or look? Re powder coating? The cost of powder coating at a good shop can be almost as expensive as buying a second set of wheels.

I agree is it a cheaper look but I still continue to rock it because it is different and people are intrigued. The old school car guys I have showed it to think it is really cool because it is completely reversible and cheap.

To each their own. Just for you CBS (hope you don't mind me abbreviating you user name)

I have perfection issues which is why I'll never get wheels powder-coated. Look into it, there are some real issues with the structure of alloy after it goes through the process. Not to mention the time, cost, and so on of having wheels removed and remounted.

"Tuner Scene" - GTFO. Can I go back in time to 1965 and punch some "Old school car guys" for adding fuzzy dice to their 57' Chevy?

Frankly, I hate old school car guys, they can take their stuck up shows and pound sand. I'm here for fun, if you are here to put people down, that is the door over there. Bunch of crabby old bastards. Go park your trailer queen in the garage. I got my Mini to drive it. Sorry I can't afford a 69' Firebird fully restored by Jay Lenno.

I'm sure the ghosts of John Cooper and Alec Issigonis are just thrilled with BMW has done with the brand.

Plasti-dip is a fine, cheap, non damaging, reversible, easy to apply, and durable coating for wheels. I don't think anyone is trying to enter a Concours with dipped wheels and parts.

Minis are fun cars, people add stickers, decals, trim goodies. Should they all pound sand too?

SUCH RAGE!

I have stepped onto the wrong side of the fence! I am just one for a "do it right the first time" mentality. The more professional and higher quality the better from what I believe in. But that's just me! As another said, "To each their own."

Sure plastidip is cheap, but it also looks cheap. To each their own, but don't get upset when people mock for how sh**tty it looks. Fuzzy dice was a trend that died and we should all be glad it did. Spinner wheels was a trend that thankfully is dead as well. Now if only this 'just plastidip it' and matte black vinyl wrapping would die off too. It's as unoriginal and unimaginative as it is cheap.

Granted...I do think black wheels look good on Astro Black MINIs like the OP owns. Just make it look like you give a damn about your car is all I'm trying to say. Not trying to be offensive, but I do agree with countryboyshane on this.

When you start trying to remove it.

It lasts a very long time.

AND ANOTHER THING!

Ok, sorry I clearly overreacted. The OP did ask for opinions.

I am a fan of the phrase "pound sand." I think I asked for that one

Sometimes if I think that giving an opinion on something that obviously some people don't like can turn into comments that are offensive to others, some threads are about stuff that I dislike but I don't like, some I don't understand but I respect their opinions.

I wanted to see how black wheels look on my black MINI. I wasn't a fan of black wheels but now I am, and now I can decide if I should PC them or just plain paint but it's nice to know that I didn't like the look I had a choice. Not everybody has the money to spend on wheels or PC them all the time.

I dint think that it was necessary to explain this part but but there you go
