oil drain plug damage!

This is not what i wanted to happen on the eve to Christmas eve, i was giving my baby an oil change and as i was getting the drain plug out nearly two threads of the helicoil in the pan came out, when reinstalling the plug it keeps threading, but i can have it slightly snug.

im not going to drive it till i have it fixed.... it sucks

just had to get home from the shop

i was wondering if anyone has had this issue?

i dont know if i should drill it out and retap it or to get a new oil pan

i have an aftermarket warranty and ill see if that is covered, im sure it is

Was it actually a helicoil brand insert or was it a timesert? If the helicoil was put in without any loctite between the helicoil and the oil pan the helicoils can back out with the bolts. Either thread the insert back in or pop a new insert in there. Its probably fine.

Bummer. Helicoils are springs. Timecerts are a solid single piece. Less chance of breaking like this. Good luck

Why do you think you have a helicoil in there, did you put one in at some point?

Was the material that came out aluminum or SS? That would help you know what was going on.

Unless you have had a helicoil put in in the past, I think you've stripped the threads in the aluminum pan and that's what came out with the plug. So, now you need to put a helicoil or timesert in to repair it.

it was the aluminum material from the pan

as for the fumoto valve, really cool idea, but i would still need to either retap or get a new pan,

ima call my warranty people today and see if they will just do a new pan

Do you have the OEM oil temp gauge? I do, and I experienced the same problem. Rather than fix it, I just used an aftermarket drain plug that engaged more than three threads . Guess one day I'll do the proper repair.

Suggestion on a gen1...
Either use an aftermarket drain plug...they sell them with course threads...slightly oversized...it will cut new ones...then replace repair the pan when you do tge next oilpan gasket...
You might get a fumoto drain plug in there... Get it tight...might try to add some sealant just to be sure...then reuse it on the fixed pan...do it right..be lucky, might last forever!!

I'm not a fan of those drain valves, but in this instance I'd re-thread or use a timecert put the valve in & call it good.

How would the ultragauge show oil pressure? No OBDII feed for that, AFAIK.
