Say I have been interested in getting a new set of 'winter wheels' so I don't have to drive around with the run flat/S lites. I would really like to find a set of the old classic Cragars.

www.cragar.com

Does anyone know of such an item with the right lug pattern?

nnn... I too was looking around for such round spokes (stangs have them too) but
could not find them in the 4lug pattern.

Might need to consider hub swap if you want to do that type of wheel.

Check out the Center Line Neutrons and let me know what you think. They are four lug 4 x100mm, polished, forged and have a sorta classic 5 spoke look. The cheapest place I found them was $171 each

Nope, the Neutrons won't work. That's right about the Mustang in fact several manufacturers have this type of wheels specifically for a Mustang.

A hub swap has anyone done that yet on a new Mini?

That's right kenchan the cragar's are the one's, but unfortunately they have a 5 lug bolt pattern. I would need to find a way to convert the existing 4 lug pattern to a five if I wanted the original Cragar's.

Hey RSpeed that's cool! Thanks I will definately look into that and get back to you. However, I would be concerend about degrading the handling characteristics. Thanks for the tip!

MGear, I saw those rims the other day and thought they would look cool on the MINI. If you get them, please post a picture.

That Place is the mother load when it comes to doing crazy stuff with wheels.
A used set of Classic ragers can not be that expensive.

If you like the way it looks then Right On, I say!

The only drawback to the Classic Cragers are their weight, 32lbs each! That's 7lbs more than the S-Lites! for a total of 28 extra pounds overall!
And that doesn't include the weight of the hub adapters!

MGear,

Here is what you are looking for:

And a link to it on the American Racing website:

American Racing Style 106

It's a 16x7 with a 42mm offset. Perfect for the MINI. I'm not sure how they accomplish the 4x100 thing (the picture is obviously a 5-lug); you'd have to contact them to find out. They also list a style 606 which is the same wheel chromed rather than polished.

It doesn't have the deep dish look that the classic cragar has, but keep in mind, nothing that has an offset anywhere close to the MINI's will. And if you succeeded in mounting a deep dish style wheel on the MINI, by adapters or otherwise, the handling might be downright dangerous and suspension damage likely.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

James

Check out Weld Racing, last i knew they had bought the classic "ss" design. They were special order- and forged! not one I handle, but A freind got a set for a classic Stingray vette.

I've found that deep dish and 4x100mm are rarity... I went with these on my xB:

Very classic looking IMO

Those wheels on your xB do look fabulous! And I really like your Scion, I have to replace my pick-up truck this year and have been considering a Scion. I went to a local dealer and read through the spec sheet. I was a bit concerned about the amount of power or lack there of. Does it have enough power to give it some get up and go? Also, can all the rear seats be removed making the vehicle more like a mini van?

I, too, am looking for a more "classic" look for my Mini wheels. My "other car" is a 1965 Pontiac Le Mans Convertible with American Racing Torque Thrust D's all around:

Maybe I'm just an old guy, but I like the classic 5-spoke design over the "Fast and Furious" designs I see everywhere. I'd love to find a Torque Thrust or a Cragar SS or a Coddington Smoothie to fit my Mini.

Hey Supergimp,
I have the same wheels on my 66 Mustang GT. I don't think we will find classic wheels like these anymore!

The Torque Thrust D's on my car are brand new. American Racing still makes these wheels. The problem is that I don't think I'm going to find a classic 5-spoke wheel with the proper 4-bolt pattern.

Steve,

Mine are actually new also, same manufacturer,American Racing. I should have said, I don't think we will find classic wheels to fit these cars, this is a new generation of cars and people. We may find something close, someday in a 4-bolt pattern. It would be interesting to see how todays cars look with vintage style wheels.
