Nah. I messed up with my paddles a couple times when I first got it, youre not the first lol. You should be alright unless you left it there and stood on it. Ft. Myers MINI is pretty good, they've been very good to me IMO.
If something happened you're car would light up like a Christmas tree.

Beachnmini the paddle shifters on an automatic wont let you destroy your engine the same way you can in a manual. Ptguy are you noticing any power loss?

Noise

How fast were you going? Was it a normal upshift at 2k-2,500k rpm or were you near your redline? To me it sounds more related to your transmission (i.e. synchronizer, chipped or cracked gear tooth or a main-shaft bearing) than your engine. The noise only occurs while travelling? Does the noise occur in neutral while revving the engine? If not I think you can rule out the engine. It almost certainly isn't turbo related. Regardless it is reassuring to know you're covered by your warranty. I'm sure they'll give you a loaner.

One other way to isolate the problem to the trans would be to push in the clutch when you hear the whine. If it goes away immediately it's more than likely the trans. Well I'm sure it's aggravating but I'd be comforted knowing it'll get fixed via warranty. Something to be "thankful" for on Thanksgiving I guess. They may very well swap out the entire transmission rather than rebuild it. Like I said my dealer supplies free loaners so you can try a different car out for a bit.

Good luck.

Yeah as for the loaner say you want to wait with the car. then you'll have to sit until the car is diaged, if there is damage to the engine or transmission that will take 2hours or longer to fix you'll get a loner.

Ft Myers MINI has given me a loaner every time I've been in for service. The only MINI I haven't driven now is the roadster. They're pretty good about that I think.

Did they say what was wrong with the transmission, was it from the money shift?

But I do love some baked goods, and Publix!

I don't understand why you are not happy. Sounds like it's still related from you shifting from 1st to 3rd. you are very lucky they replaced the transmission under warranty when clearly it wasn't a warranty defect. just hope that they don't check the rev counter for over revs.

Simple, its a undesiged over rev.who knows how high you really got it past redline could determine how much damage was caused. It being your fault is accurate, you did shift it, right?
