I think even on lifted trucks, the tires being beyond any fender or flare is hideous and stupid, I think the tint strip coming down to right in the middle of my vision would drive me nuts and I think being that it's still only 2 wheel drive it makes zero sense.

I like that you blacked out all the chrome trim?

Not sure how well it rides but if it suits its purpose, I dig it.

Oh, that first comment was a bit harsh! Light front wheel drive, aggressive treads - might handle pretty well in the snow. So, how is it?

Thanks yall.

Handling- little more body roll but not that bad. my buddies 2013 corolla has more body roll.

Traction- in the snow its great!!!! way better than all season tires.

Ride- alot more comfy due to fatter tires.

That is pretty cool. Does it bottom out and rub the tires at all? Do you now have 4" of travel or is it 2" of travel? There is a pic around of a red Canadian Mini that looks very similar to yours.

I put the stock suspension back on so im not sure of the original travel of that but what ever that is add an additional 2". No bottoming out and no rubbing.

Do not confuse better tires for anything more than better tires. Yes, a dedicated snow tread will always beat the snot out of "all season" tires in the winter. It's not to do with the lift, nor the size. Heck, if they were narrower they'd be even better in the snow yet!

Not trying to do nothing but dog your direction of modding (other than the limo tint which is a safety and convenience issue in itself), just don't entirely see the benefit of lifting a MINI. It's still a small, unibody FWD CAR. It's not going to perform off road like a truck.

I appreciate your input. I agree narrower tires are better in snow for sure. My goal here was not to make a dedicated mudder but to try something new for a mini. I live near the mountains in las vegas and do a ton of mild trail riding so these mods have helped out plus made it more fun to drive since I don't have to worry my rims or bottoming. The limo tintis a necessity in las Vegas where temps this yr hit 117

Man those temps are gross! lol

If it suits your style, like I said, not completely trying to be negative. It would be nice if there were some kind of fender flare available though. Would look so much cleaner than the tires hanging way out imo.

Lift Kit Disaster...

i have a 2012 countryman that i purchased for NYC and wanted to have some extra pot-hole clearance & height so i got an after-market 2" lift-kit, 18" rims and bigger tires. looked great but rode very stiff. after a year, i found my "tie-rods" (?? - not a gear head, sorry) were cracked and my mechanic recommended to have the kit taken out. now i am stuck with the bigger tires which bottom out on big bumps.

careful in buying these aftermarket kits for the mini's as my mechanic even said the install was very hard and put a strain on the given suspension.

any news on how any safe, reliable way to raise the suspension would be very helpful.

Specifically what was hard about the install?

I have a CooperCrap lift for my R53 sitting on my bench.

Thanks.

I love it. Way to be different. It reminds me of a modern Baja VW Bug.

Haha...I love it. Nice job. One of the things I like most about our community is that Mini owners are not afraid to think outside the box and like the uniqueness of our vehicles.

Clearance is the name of this game

Fun!! If you followed the Mini doing MTTS 2014 starting in Germany driving across Russia on his way to San Francisco. He hit a pot hole somewhere in Russia that slowed him down two days to get welded back together. I bet he wished he had your's. http://www.gigamot.com/mini/videos/
You must know about the 3 Minis which have been placed in the top four in the Dakar in the past two years! Yours is a great start. Anyone complaining about two wheel drive versus 4 wheel drive have no idea what they are talking about. I have a rock crawler and keep it in two wheel drive 90% of the time OHV tracks in Moab and Colorado Rockies. Here in CO I drive in 20 inches of snow with either a front or rear wheel drive (with chains) depending upon which vehicle I own at the time. I have used two wheel drive on my deep mud road in WV to get in and out of my 2 mile long mud road to get to my hunting cabin that I am sure no one in this forum even dreamed about. Clearance is what the game is. No clearance, no go. I think your mod is a terrific start and helps me stay focused on modifying a third acquisition (I own two Gen 1's for street and track) so that i can start my second Arctic to Antarctic ride (the first was on a dual sport motorcycle KLR650). Then continue to around the world through Africa and Russia. Think outside the box! Safe travels.

I want to put the same wheels/tires on mine. Have the lift kit but having trouble finding the right wheels. Is the offset, -25, built into the wheel or is it a spacer. ALL i can find that fits my model (2005) is a 14X7 wheel with -25 offset, and a 15x7 with 0 offset.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
