R56 Graf Water Pump Warning
Graf Water Pump Warning
I bought the Graf water pump to replace my original water pump. After installing the pump I could not get the pulley on because the shaft on the Graf was too long. I was able to get my Dremel tool to the front of the shaft and grind enough off to get the pulley in place. It would have been much easier if I had realized this before installing the pump. So if you buy an aftermarket pump compare the shaft lengths with the original before installing. It is not a big deal but just be aware a problem could exist.

ALSO! For what it's worth, I purchased the new updated, metal OEM water pump from Pelican Parts (I am not affiliated with this company by any means) for about half of the cost of the Graf pump.
For your information I did a search. I read the DIY on the water pump but I did not have time to read all the post. Sorry to offend you but I wanted to put the warning in the title so people would find it. If a warning was in a title then I did not see it. I also purchased the Graf pump from Pelican and it was the cheapest pump they had at $47.
I'm not offended, man! I just see it all too often on this forum where there's a lot of good knowledge covered up by a lot of generally uninteresting/unhelpful posts.
I didn't realize the Graf was so inexpensive. Maybe I was comparing my costs to my dealer's quote? Either way, for $15 on top of the Graf, the Saleri is definitely the easiest choice if you don't want to modify it to fit.
Since you've actually replaced your water pump, and modified it to fit, have you done any other repairs that are more on the difficult side?

I also used the Graf pump to replace the OEM plastic one. From the pictures I saw, it looks identical to the new OEM one, apart from the shaft length.
I removed the engine support completely on one side to be able to work, so the longer shaft was not a problem. The only thing I noticed, was that it makes a whinning-spund when the engine is cold. I am not sure it is the pump or the friction wheel, but the sound is there. When the engine is warm, I do not hear it.
