Winter Wheels Question
Winter Wheels Question
I have a 2010 R56 base Cooper with 16" wheels. I've found a set of 15" wheels (I think they are #59360 R81 Imola "holeys") from a 2003 base Cooper that I'm going to pick up in a couple of days. From my brief study, it looks like these should fit as winter wheels and I'll get a set of 195/60-15 winter tires to mount.
Anyone aware of any fitment issues with this plan? Can I use my current lugs OK?
Thanks,

They should be good. A nice light wheel. I use them for my winter wheels.
Pull a lug bolt from your MINI & see if it fits before you pay for them. I'd bet they will be OK.
EDIT..... Went out to the garage & stuck a 14mm lug bolt in the bolt hole on a Holey. Fits fine no problems at all. Best buy them before someone else snatches them up.

I think I have a firm hold on the wheels that are reported to be in good shape. I plan to pick up the set of 4 tomorrow for $130.

OK - did some more searching and found this from "bluefox280" in a thread about 1.5yrs ago:
"On July 12, 2006 the size of wheel bolts was changed from M12x1.5 to M14x1.25.
There exists a misconception that this change in wheel bolt size precludes fitting early OEM wheels on later model cars.
This is simply not true as all OEM wheels have holes large enough for either size wheel bolt."
Off to buy the wheels...
(learned one other tidbit while searching: "wheel hanger pins". http://burgertuning.com/wheel_hanger_pin_BMW.html - wish I'd known about these years ago!)

Yes they are from a gen 1 MINI.

I think you will fall in love with those light rims....they are sought out for a reason..light and strong OEM rims. As long as you can deal with the TPMS light (gen1 cars did not have wheel mounted sensors..if you want the rims could be fitted though I'm 99% sure)...
Heck...I did the reverse on my S...
I bought a set of 2nd gen 15' rims cheap...sold the sensors..fitted tires for winter use on my gen1 S!!

In our VWs I stick a little circle of black gaffers tape over the light during the winter and I'll try that on the MINI. I guess the little triangle in the tach display will stay on too, but I'll just run it thru the check cycle every once in awhile to see if anything new has popped up.
