2012 R56 with HK system question

Hi, I have a 2012 R56 with the HK system. Would it be possible to use an aftermarket head unit with the stock HK amp and speakers. I know the Gen 1 minis had the HK enabler. Do they make it for Gen2 Minis? Thanks!

You can not take out/replace the head unit in 2nd gen MINIs without losing functionality of many things (display, steering wheel contols, gong, etc) because it is tied in with the CAN/BUS. Look thru the threads, double din is probably the best. When/if you go there you risk opening a big can of worms. If you do, please chronicle your adventure. We all wish it was not that complicated.

thanks for your reply! I did skim through the double din thread. I was thinking of piggybacking the new HU with the stock. Would I need to completely bypass the HK system, no way to "trick" HK system in powering the speakers with the new HU?

Look at Integral Audio's instructions for your MINI model. Does not go into replacement of the the head unit but gives a usefel runaround for great sound, to include addition of an amp, replacement of the door speakers and addiion of a sub in back. They have a complete package. Expensive, but you could spend as much in time trying to circumvent that headunit. IMO best left as is.

Like they said, anything is possibly if you throw enough money at it.

Just wondering what you are trying to accomplish by using an aftermarket hu?
