Jcw

Would it be worth getting a John Cooper Works package on my Mini Cooper s? And if so, how much would getting the package cost me? I own a 2005 Mini Cooper s r53.

JCW package is a rip off, you can do a CAI, 380cc injectors and after market cat-back exhaust and a tune for half as much as a JCW package. The JCW did have a very mild port job on the exhaust side, but not enough to make much difference. you do the above mentioned things and you will essentially get the same performance as a 05 factory JCW for less money.

Well as ACallahan stated so eloquently, to order the kit after the fact (or even from the dealer NEW/Installed) is over priced, people do it because its in the purchase price so they dont really feel it, and lets be honest only 1% of the people do mods to their cars. People that buy the JCW kit bought it cause hey wanted something special that they were not going to do the work for themselves, I am not knocking them, it what makes MINI's so special you can order in thousands of combinations!

That being said, you asked what it cost: about 6k$ and that does not include the installation. Now if you did order one, you could sell off your SC, & Head and get a quick 1k$ back.

So like he said, you are far better off, just getting the equivalent mods and installing them your self:

  • Cold Air Intake - they start about 150.oo and you can get a JCW one for $325
  • Injectors - JCW 380cc ~400$ after market 380cc about ~300 or less (search for the thread on this)
  • Exhaust - JCW (new) right at a 1k$ After-market from $350 to A LOT.
  • Head - JCW I do not know and would not even bother with, if you really want to spend the money to have the JCW name and a piece of Paper then go for it, if not get one of the MINI specialty shops Head Thumper, RMW, Hell even the Cosworth!
  • Tune - you can get the JCW tune from the dealer, if you have the other mods, for usually 1 hour labor (est 150$)
  • Badges & Stickers - Most can be found on the bay at affordable prices if you want the look.
  • Brakes - JCW Kits Range from the DIY (which I did) for about 400.oo$ to 2500 for the TRUE JCW BBK
  • Pulley/Supercharger - in the kit is a supercharger that has coated rotors (which came on the 05 and 06) and a pulley that was about 11% reduction. You can get aftermarket from 15 to 19% for about $100
Now, I know that you think you want the JCW as its the neat setup, but looking at your Forum name you are 19 to 20 years old so I really doubt that you want to drop 6 to 8K$ for about 20 more HP and some brakes. I am 40+ and I sure as hell am not going to do it!

So I would suggest: (all prices are estimates and depending on Brand and Model should be adjusted)

GP Intercooler - 550$
Injectors - 400$
Pulley - 100
Exhaust - $700
Header - $500
Tune - $350 (get custom)
Brakes - $450 - DIY JCW R53 to R56 Conversion

These things are NOT listed in order as I would suggest Pulley FIRST, its the MOST Bang for the Buck!

Other things I would suggest:

ATI Dampener - $350
Lower Control arm Bushing PowerFlex $100
