down pipe and tune?

im wanting to do an open down pipe on my r56 and I want to know if its safe to run this without a tune for a while, would this just make the car run rich and make a check engine light come on. or could it damage the car. im new in the world of ''boost'' so any help would be great!

For god's sake don't run a downpipe with no exhaust. Rice city right there.

If you're referring to a catless downpipe, yes, it will populate a check engine light. It is safe to run without a tune, but you will notice a loss of low end torque until you get a tune.

You can delete the 2nd cat and resonator to get noise, a little better flow, and no CEL.

This route will cost you under $20.
However it'll net you just about jack in the performance department.

Downpipe + tune is the first thing to getting more out of your "boosted" vehicle.
And depends on if you are getting it tuned or just throwing on an accessport, you can also look into an intake as well.
Intakes will also net you jack all useless without a tune.

I just wanted a bit more noise and expected nothing else, but I got almost 2mpg in return. I wasn't expecting it, but I'm not complaining.

If you want a catless downpipe check out our WMW one as it is the only one that is all one piece, among other things we think it is by far the best

Gosh when I was so young... If you do this you WILL get a CEL. The Akrapovic Delete R will take care of it.
