Rubber Trim Discoloration

So the latest thing bugging me about my fiancee's two-month old MCS is the rubber trim above the windshield, which should be black, is discoloring to a brown. This does not come off during a regular car wash, nor did Armor All or any other trim dressing type product seem to help. If you sit there and rub it vigorously you can get a little of it off, but not much and it never goes back to being clean black like it should be.

Anyone else had this issue and find a solution? I will post a picture if I can remember. Since it isn't my car it only bothers me when I wash hers.

I'm close to calling the dealership about it but most likely that would mean having to take it in to them only to have them tell me it's not a warranty issue or whatever.

I read somewhere in NAM that people are using Kiwi liquid shoe shine to dye the rubber trim -- with mixed results. Try it in one small spot and observe in a week or two after washes. Just be careful that the sponge doesn't touch the paint and glass.

I just spoke to the MINI Service Advisor here in Scottsdale and he advised me that if the car is only 2 months old that it should not have dis colored. He said to bring it in and they would make sure that it wasn't something like wax build up and they would attempt to clean it off. If it did not come off it would be covered under warranty. Sorry, I was bored.

I would suggest using a silicone like "Tire Magic" ~ it's clear but does amazing things at rejuvenating trim parts. Just avoid getting it on paint ~ it won't hurt it, but it's hard to get off.
