Check engine light with no steering wheel air bag?

Alright so I have the opportunity to get a really good deal on a grip royal steering wheel locally with a nrg 2.0 quick release. For those of you who have aftermarket steering wheels did you throw a code missing that air bag? or is there some way to get around it?

I've not done it in a Mini... but in a VW you just add a simulator and it prevents the light from coming on (its just a resistor).. http://www.airbagsystems.com/simulator.html

Coming from someone that t-boned a car running a red light, not sure eliminating an air bag is a good idea. Assuming of course, your mini is street driven..
