Just got my Alta boost gauge setup first impressions

http://altaperformance.com/i-1400714...ost-gauge.html

I'm going to be installing this tomorrow just wanted to give my impressions opening the box. Alta boost tap is good quality, Alta gauge pod is good quality but the piece of silicone provided to keep the gauge in place is rubbish and i threw it away. I used the piece of rubber provided with the Prosport gauge. Now onto the Prosport boost gauge. The gauge is good quality but I think the biggest part that is misleading is that the gauge looks to be 1/2 mechanical 1/2 electronic which i wanted a full mechanical gauge. It has the boost tap and boost lines ran to a "boost sender" and that runs wires into the back of the gauge. I don't know how much of a delay this will cause. If anyone runs one of these can you chime in? But i'll get back to you tomorrow on how the install goes. I also don't know where in the cabin to wire the headlamp wire that turns the amber color Can someone help me out?

Mechanical boost gauges use vacuum/boost pressure to actuate the needle, and nothing else.

Electronic gauges use the sending unit like you have to report back the gauge what the vacuum/boost pressure is.

Basically, there is no such thing as a 1/2 mechanical, 1/2 electronic gauge. It's one or the other. As for the response time between the two, you will never be able to tell the difference between them.

As for the installation, you should have had them in the box. It describes quite clearly where they want you to tap in. Constant 12v power comes from the OBDII connector. Everything else taps in to the wires around the cigarette lighter port.

If you don't have a copy of the instructions in the box, then see the attachment. Just found the file on my phone.

So i got the gauge installed and it works perfectly. It's a lot more responsive that the can tool dash hack. There being a noticeable delay having the speedo set to a boost gauge. The color matches perfectly, the install was pretty straight forward with the instructions evilc66 provided me, which I don't know why alta wouldn't include them. They included instructions for the boost tap, and the guage pod, but not the product as a whole. It took me about 2.5 hours total with keeping all wires hidden and the engine bay wires hidden. With me having a N18 i'm really bummed my vacuum is set at about -1 all the time and it doens't fluctuate. I like watching needles dance. But it works great and the peak boost button is a nice feature. All in all a good buy.

These engines don't produce a ton of vacuum on their own, which is why there is a mechanical vacuum pump on the cylinder head. As a result, the needle isn't going to do much when you are off boost. Just start grinning when the needle goes into positive pressure

It puts a smile on my face every time I mash the throttle (which is a lot). Worth every penny.
