I'd assume something left behind from the factory?

Looks like a blank for a valet key. Or maybe not. Where did you find it in the car?

It was stuck in the passenger side seat rail. Looks like it fell out of a pocket or something.

That's twice I heard the pregnancy strip thing. Definitely not that. It does look a lot like a valet key, but glow in the dark and plastic?

That is the little tab you pull out from between the AA batteries and contacts when you buy your new MINI to allow it to run.

If you look close you can see the mini logo. So it definitely came with your car. I'm thinking some type of tool used during assembly.

I believe it is a plastic key blank. You can cut this so it opens your doors. You can also buy these cut from MINI for a wheel barrow full of money. I needed one for my '05 so the steering wheel would not lock when I towed it. In 2008 they were about $70 cut. Probably a good key shop can cut it from your key so it will open your door. That's my two cents for what it's worth.

I figured as much. My car is brand new, I'd assume it was something they should have tossed but didn't.

Maybe it's an RFID tag used to track the car through the different steps of the fabrication process (?)
I have to say it does look like the key. Is it actually the same size and can you get the car started with it? . . . idk...

It appears to be an uncut wallet key, from reading around that's what its said to be too. I wouldn't toss it tho becasue all though uncut I think that dark part looks like the chip for the car to read.

I kept it, if for no other reason than to have some cool MINI memorabilia. Apparently rare it could be, seeings how nobody has seemed to have seen one of these before.
