JCW Strut Brace

Not a question of whether this is useful/better/worse or not - but is this piece legal for HS? I imagine yes, since it is essentially just like the JCW Sport Suspension which is dealer installed - but I'm not 100% sure. This is the $277 JCW Strut Brace under JCW accessories.

Just want to make sure.

::edit::

Confirmed on 9/30/2013 with the MINI dealer: this item CAN be port installed, and by SCCA rules should be legal for stock class.

I'm pretty sure its not legal. In stock anything is not legal until a rule says it is. I don't know of any rule which would cover that.

You're getting confused by the JCW suspension, its not legal because its dealer installed, its legal because its port installed. Bits which can be installed at the port are counted as factory options. The JCW suspension got legal when there was documentation of it being installed at the port. If you can get the same for the struct brace, you could go for it, other wise its not legal.

i'm a little confused now actually - port installed means it's installed at the port of entry or w/e correct? but isn't the jcw suspension installed at the dealer, same as the brace would be?

I think the JCW suspension is installed at the dealer, but the powers that be have been convinced its been installed that the port in certain instances. Once its port installed, its fair game. I'm not convinced.

I don't think it's whether it's port-installed or not. I believe someone wrote in a letter to the SEB to clarify whether the JCW suspension is legal in stock and the ruling was that it was. The same thing happened for the JCW engine tuning package people put on the mcs. Charlie would probably know better. I'm not much of an expert on stock/street classing.

That would probably just fall under the comfort and convenience allowance. Basically, as long as there is no performance benefit it's allowed. So things like shift *****, interior trim, gauges, etc. is allowed.

okay - was hoping someone wouldn't call it a "mod" for potentially (i dont even think it's real cf) being lighter

The catchall section is 13.2A
other appearance, comfort and convenience modifications which have no effect on performance and/or handling and do not materially reduce the weight of the car are permitted.
You might want to weigh your Carbon Fibre bits so you can show it doesn't reduce the weight if someone complains.

If I ever enter our JCW, that's how I'll justify the GP diffuser. I have data to suggest it produces no downforce, so has no effect on performance and is just an appearance mod.

As I understand it, the justification for it being legal was it was port installed at some point. If it weren't it'd be obviously illegal.

E-mailed the dealer today to see if the JCW brace is at all port-installed, and if that is the case, if I can get documentation

FYI -

Dealer told me it was "too late" for me to have this installed at the port - which means that it WAS actually an option to get it installed at the port. Hence, legal in stock class?

I confirmed with the dealer that it was possible for me to have this item port installed - AKA, it's legal! I'm still going to ask them for documentation of such, but there it is folks.
