Let me get this straight N18 HP mods

So as far as simple or not too crazy hard driveway DIY's HP mods go

CAI- just as many people on here saying you loose poor as say you gain power, plus there's the whole oil and the MAS debate....
definitely adds more HP to your ears though

thinking about getting the DOS panel filter

http://www.defendersofspeed.com/dry-...-cooper-s-jcw/

FMIC-minor gains i'm guessing there too, but i'm open to it

Exhaust- keeping the one I have, minor HP here too, again it's all in the ears I think!

I'm unclear if there's a piggyback for the ECU on the JCW yet.

Downpipe- the whole throwing codes thing, sounds like a PAI!

am I missing something simple here that doesn't cost a boat load of cash??

I was going to post something similar. I would also like to get a better idea of what exactly will fit our cars.

Tune: Waiting on further development of the JB product.

Exhaust: Which catless DP's will work on the GP?

Intake: Waiting on the AEM CAI

Charge pipe: Will most likely go with Alta

BOV: Researching this a bit further seems to show that a BOV will not work on this car. Am I understanding this correctly?

FMIC: Open to suggestions.

Am I forgetting anything here?

I'm sure terry will figure something out

You'll be waiting awhile for the aem system.

All catless dp's for the r56 platform should fit the gp.

Charge pipes are fairly useless. But they sound better, I would go with forge.

No bov works right for our cars so go diverter valve and get the forge or Alta system

For fmic all the major companies systems work (forge, helix, Alta) but don't cheap out with some aliexpress crap.

Also check out w/m systems.

Looks like your thinking about every basic bolt on there is. I have a new GP also that is my daily driver and we even have a build thread on here. We haven't added much lately as I had to dyno it, and put some miles on it before any real mods started but I can tell you from experience what mods actually work and what I will be doing to my GP. I'm not building a race car out of it, just a fast street car that will surprise most, but still be quiet enough to enjoy everyday.

Forge Intercooler, best actual power add mod. Lower intake temps equal power. There is NO intake on the market that will lower intake temps more than an intercooler.
NM Discharge pipe. I use these because they are a hard pipe that doesn't flex under boost, and they fit right. The silicone Alta ones fit horrible and rub which will rub through and leak.
Exhaust, I already added an Akrapovic Exhaust as I didn't like the drone from the JCW exhaust. It was really bad with no rear seats. I will be adding an Akrapovic Downpipe Also as that will improve turbo spool and torque.
For the intake, you'll just have to see as I plan on posting it soon.
NM Torque Arm bushing, totally cheap mod that improved the shifting and smoothed out acceleration making the power get to the ground.
ECU tune, I'm building a basic tune for it that won't be for huge gains, but give it a nice bump while retaining reliability.

Why do I picture Way at his desk wearing a super heroes cape while he replies to these threads??

Nice reply!

I like the thought of the FMIC but I have to admit, I'm kinda intimidated by the tought of pulling the whole front end of my car off...

+1

Im also looking at the FMIC, dont know of any graphs to show TQ/HP gains (in this engine), but at least the physical principle is right.

Bring over a case of beer and we'll make a day of it. I've got a lift in my garage too.

I was a little too, but it's super easy. Putting the front on jack stands makes it even easier. When I did mine I start around 6 PM and finished by 10 PM (I was working slow and I'm a little physically handicapped) it was a weekday night so I had to finish to drive to work the next day. It would be wise to purchase a few of the plastic push-in rivets because you will probably trash a few.

The most frustrating part for me was disconnecting the brake ducts and reinstalling the metal crash bumper, the frame torqued when I removed it and it was a pain to get lined back up.

Oh, watch the install video on the helix website.

To be honest I don't think I felt much. That being said, I look it all the mods as being additive or synergistic.

Here's a graph of a road "dyno" using DashCommand that I took last night. I'm going to start doing this before/after other mods to get a more quantitative assessment.

Thanks for the input
Seems like most of the mods are a little hp here, a little there, but lots of $$$ here and there

Ok I put in a aFe dry filter, definitely can hear the blow off louder, a nice volume, not like a ricer or anything, a nice whoosh.

Not sure if there's more power, I think yes, but it may be in my head too

I just put in a K&N Air Intake Filter. Similar experience as described!

Sorry Jibber, not picking on you but... Peeps, you will NOT get anything close to a significant HP gain by replacing individual parts. NOT gonna happen. If you want faster Mini then be prepared to spend some money. Study and learn and apply that to work on the whole system. Make your Mini an overall better Mini. Yes, CAI (DoS), FMIC, Hot Pipe, etc, all leading up to an ECU tune. Your work up to the ECU tune will be rather boring, but after the tune... WHOA!!! You will then seriously want a limited slip differential!!! If you don't have money to commit to full DP-back exhaust, true CAI, non eBay FMIC, tune, etc, buy suspension stuff... Way better initial investment!
