R50/53 Refilling CVT with oil
Refilling CVT with oil
Having purchased 5 quarts of Redline CVT oil, I'm in search of re-filling advice.
If you've done the drain and re-filling procedure, what tips would you recommend so that I correctly refill the transmission on my 2005 Cooper with Auto CVT?
Thank you.

When the transmission is cold, raise the car onto jack stands so that BOTH front wheels are off the ground (its a good idea to put the rear on jack stands too so that the car remains as level as possible). Drain the fluid by removing the drain plug at the bottom of the trans. Re-install it and remove the fill plug on the side of the trans. Pump in 4.5 liters of oil.
Start the engine and let it run for 10 sec. Turn off the traction control, push and hold the brake and shift the trans through all of the gears, staying in each gear for 5 sec. Shift into "D," release the brake and gently rev the engine until the trans have shifted all the way into the highest gear and let it run there for a few seconds. Stop the wheels by pushing the brake and repeat. Do the same thing again with the trans in "R."
Shift into "P" and let the engine run until the trans is warm (30-50 deg C).
Shut the engine off and while the trans is still warm pump more fluid into the fill hole until it begins to spill out. Install the fill plug and you're done!
