Transmission noise

I have a 2004 R50 Cooper and it makes a whine around 3K and 4K RPM. It is pronounced but I haven't noticed any drop in power or performance. Any ideas or is it natural?

Is it like a high pitch ringing more than a whine? I get that too and want to know what it is as well

Not really a high pitched whine. Best way to describe it is a Ferrari type of whine.
