New Summer Tires 09 MCS
New Summer Tires 09 MCS
Occasional track days but mostly (98%) daily fun driver. I have dedicated snows and have it narrowed down to these 4 options. Budget is about $100/tire. Below are all priced via TireRack
P Zero Nero
$99/each
$70MIR
$326 AR+shipping/install
Continental ExtremeContact DW
$104/tire
$416 + shipping/install
(these have an interesting feature with a D and W eteched into the tread to let you know when the tire is not longer good for dry or wet)
Yokohama S.Drive
$107/tire
$428
P Zero Nero GT
$140/tire
$556
$70 Rebate
$486 AR + shipping/install

I'd pick the Conti DW of that bunch. They're probably the best overall
performing tire of those 4, and have good ride and wear characteristics as well.
I have them on my MINI in 205/50/16 now.
I'm guessing you are running 205/45/17 based on the choices you listed.

Depending on your budget if you can stretch it a little-
Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position
$114 each 280 treadwear
The taller than OEM tire diameter of 24.7" fits fine for OEM suspension.
The S-04 is a much better tire than those you listed for track days. It is a firmer riding tire and is very good handling for street use.
The bridgestones also have a $70 rebate going on now, at least through tire rack. I was looking at those for a summer tire also. It's amazing how much price variation there is for these tires.
Have fun,
Mike

I went with Bridgestone S-04 Pole Positions. TireRack had the cheapest price even after shipping costs compared to our local installers. Final price was about $500 shipped. Then take off $70 for the rebate and that should pay for most/all of the mounting.

I also went that same route and ordered a set of 215/45-17 S-04's last night. Deal too good to pass up, and needed to ditch the RFT's.
I'll post impressions after they are mounted this weekend.
Anyone interested in the stock 205/45-17 RFT's with only about 500 miles on them?

Bridgestone S04 is hard to beat for the price. For ride quality on the road, its reasonable as well. The break-away at the slip angle is very easy to modulate.
