Im wanting to know how low these can go and if there is any cutting involed or any problems you guys have had. I dont do autocross or anything performance. I just want to slam it and still be able to adjust softness for when the wife and soon to be newborn are in the car.

Honestly, If you want to slam a car and it still be comfortable enough for a newborn, go with bags. If you can only afford megans which is why I assume you're asking about them, buy new not as stiff springs for it because they are stiff. It doesn't matter how soft you have the damper dial.

Do people still slam these cars? I hadn't seen a slammed MINI in a while. I would imagine the ride would get really rough after dropping more than an inch unless you are going with a smaller rim and higher profile tire.

Best wishes with the newborn on the way and please post some pics of the completed project. Would be interesting to see.

Slam a MINI with a newborn on the way? I don't get it. Save your money for diapers

megans are not the way to go when a newborn is on the way. like someone else said, every setting feels the same...get Ohlins and call it a day.

Long story short I already have springs but I have to start over from scratch because the new struts I bought were garbage and I was given the wrong front struts so I had to cut the springs to make them fit and now its just all messed up so im just going to buy coilovers. And supergreg I asked a question about suspension parts not your opinion about dipers. If you have nothing to contribute stay off my thread.

Look into ST's, they go fairly low and by all accounts they ride better.

But is that worth the extra 300 bux just for height adjustability and not damper? That just seems a bit steep to me just to lower it. Do you have them on yours?

I don't want to come off as crude, but, personally I wouldn't bother spending money on Megans, I think they're crap.
Megans are the domestic subcompacts of the coilover world.
You get them because you can't afford anything else even slightly better.

I will also add to the "If it's all you can afford, save your money" argument. They ride like crap and are low quality. You need to understand the price difference between them and say Ohlin's is there for a reason. I've never, in any car crowd, heard someone say "Oh yeah these Megans ride and perform just like the coilovers from reputable companies double their price".....because they don't.

You have a newborn on the way, why are you wanting so badly to slam a car you're going to be using to transport the family? You aren't going to go fully slammed and still have good ride quality no matter what products you use. There needs to be room for the suspension to travel.

Im not talking about scraping the frame slammed I just like lowered cars and we have an suv for most of the driving with the baby. So megans is basically off the table then, but what about the st ones that the other guy recommended? The reason why im wanting to do all this is I got a set of nm springs. I like those and they worked just fine. But my struts were bad so I got a set off ebay for cheap. The back seemed to be fine but now thier making lots of squeeking noises and the front the company sent me front struts off a convertable... they mount the same but the platform that the springs sit on are completely different. So having been in a rush because I use my car for work I just cut the springs to make them fit but I cut to much and now the car rides like **** AND squeeks from the back. So insted of buying another set of nm springs then finding a better "correct" set of struts all around. It will more then likely be cheaper to just get a set of coil overs...

+1 for ST coilovers, much better made with better valves on the cylinders.

It's not just about height, it's also about maintaining your suspension geometry , responsiveness, dampening and ride.

If it is height you want, get another set of NM springs, and a set of stock OEM struts and it'll lower your car, (until your strut blows out a valve in the foreseeable future). Granted, this will be much cheaper than getting a set of good coilovers that equal to or exceed OEM quality.

(good) coilovers improve the ride, handling, reduce tram-lining, and, also, on a somewhat related side note, lower your car in the process. And yes, it's very steep if you are only looking to lower your car.

A decent set of coilovers start at +$500 conservatively. I think that amount of money justifies your consideration for not just height but also overall handling, ride quality, as well as hardware longevity.
